Can The Brewers Overcome Boston’s Elite Rotation?
Brewers vs Red Sox Odds: Another Sweep For Boston Is In Play

A third of the way into the season, the Milwaukee Brewers still lead the National League Central despite trading away their top pitcher, Corbin Burnes, before the MLB season.
The Brewers are 28-21, despite going 4-6 in their last ten games.
They’ll head out on the road this weekend to face the Boston Red Sox in an interleague series. The Red Sox are two MLB games above .500 and have elite pitching on tap for the weekend.
Can the Brewers overcome the dominant Boston rotation?
The oddsmakers currently have the Red Sox as favorites for Game 1 of the series. The Red Sox are currently -130, with the total sitting at 8.5. However, the Over is juiced to -120, with the Under at +100.
Let’s take a deep dive into the Brewers vs Red Sox odds for this weekend’s series below.

Joe Ross Placed On Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers placed Joe Ross on the injured list with a back strain. He only had a 2-4 record with a 4.50 ERA, but he was a consistent portion of Milwaukee’s starting rotation.
It’s a nagging injury that doesn’t seem serious. But Ross stated that he was frustrated. He’ll no longer be in line to start against the Red Sox this weekend.
Tobias Myers was called up from Triple-A Nashville to fill his spot on the roster. Myers probably won’t help the Milwaukee Brewers standings positively.
Boston Still Waiting To Get Masataka Yoshida Back
Mastaka Yoshida has been away from the diamond since April 28th with a thumb injury. He was shut down, and the media was told he wouldn’t be re-evaluated for a few weeks.
Yoshida will be on the sidelines much longer than Boston anticipated. This is just another blow to a Boston team that has dealt with a lot of injuries to start the year.

- Bryse Wilson vs Kutter Crawford
Bryse Wilson has some surprising statistics. He’s 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA on the season. However, against his first 156 batters this year, Wilson has allowed a .167 ISO with only 41.1% of ground balls induced.
He’s also struck out below 20% of batters and has walked 10.3% of batters.
It’s only a matter of time until he folds.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox’s projected lineup has hit a .190 ISO and wOBA of .327 against righties this season. Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Conner Wong, Rafael Devers, Rob Refsnyder, and David Hamilton have put up good numbers against righties this season.
Conversely, the Red Sox will throw Kutter Crawford for Game 1 of the series. Crawford has limited MLB teams to a .088 ISO and wOBA of .268 with 23.8% of strikeouts and 7.5% of walks. That’s helped Crawford earn a 2.17 ERA up to this point.
The Brewers would’ve loved to have Rhys Hoskins in this series against Wilson and the other two righties. However, he’s still on the MLB injured list and just ramping up baseball activities.
That said, the Brewers will rely on consistent hitters such as Jake Bauers, William Contreras, Christian Yelich, Willy Adames, and Joey Ortiz. Even Blake Perkins has had above-average success against righties.
Crawford has way better analytics than Wilson. We’d roll with the Red Sox at -130 in Game 1 of the series.

- Colin Rea vs Nick Pivetta
In Game 2 of the series, Colin Rea will get the start. He’s limited walks well and has added nearly 43% of grounders. Still, Rea has allowed a .209 ISO and wOBA of .366.
Boston has a few lefties that can do damage, including Devers, who has been on a tear in May.
On the other hand, Nick Pivetta will pitch for the Red Sox. Pivetta has earned 30.3% of strikeouts to start the season. While he’s allowed some high power, he’s still limited teams to a .287 wOBA, thanks to his 2% of walks this season.
Ultimately, the Red Sox match up way better against Rea than the Brewers do against Pivetta. The Boston Red Sox schedule is finally getting easier. We’d back Boston in Game 2 when the Brewers vs Red Sox odds for Game 2 are released.

- Tobias Myers vs. Tanner Houck
With Ross on the shelf, Tobias Myers will likely get the start for Milwaukee. While he was called up from Triple-A, Myers has already faced 79 Major League batters this season. However, those 79 batters have hit a .275 ISO and wOBA of .360.
Myers has allowed a .429 ISO and wOBA of .408 to 40 righties but has actually held lefties to a .118 ISO. A batter like Tyler O’Neill can do damage against Myers.
Myers will be asked to keep the Brewers in the game despite going against Tanner Houck. Houck has a 1.94 ERA and has been brilliant all season.
The Boston righty has a .046 ISO and wOBA of .234 with nearly 57% of ground balls and only 16.9% of fly balls allowed.
Houck won’t make nearly as many mistakes as the Milwaukee rookie will. Therefore, we envision a sweep for the Red Sox in this weekend-long series. Take the Red Sox when the MLB betting lines are available.
