Can The Yankees Break Out Against Lefty Povich?
Yankees vs Orioles Runline: Visitors Have More Potential

The Baltimore Orioles will welcome the New York Yankees to town for the first three games over the weekend.
The Yankees led the AL East for most of the season. However, as long as the Orioles can win one of three games in this series, they’ll hang on to first place throughout the All-Star Break.
While the Yankees are still 56-39, they’ve gone 3-7 in their last ten games and had one of the worst June’s in the MLB.

Even with all that, they can get right ahead of the Orioles with a series win. They’ll rely on ace pitcher Gerrit Cole to do just that. However, he hasn’t pitched like an ace since returning.
- That’s why the Yankees are just -125 on the moneyline with the total at 9. However, the total of 9 is still juiced to the Under at -115.
Should we consider a Yankees vs Orioles runline bet for Game 1 of this series? Let’s talk about it below.

The Yankees Need Help
The Yankees started the season red-hot. They were the MLB’s best team for months but finally started to regress.
In baseball, it’s hard to play consistent baseball all season long. However, the Yankees have been consistently inconsistent for years.
The team will have massive months and then struggle severely in others. Right now, they’re in that stretch of playing terrible baseball. But with 56 wins, the Yankees are still in the playoff race and likely to make the playoffs.
Therefore, New York will look at other options before the trade deadline. Reports have already swirled that the Yankees have checked in on outfielder Jazz Chisholm from the Marlins. Chisholm would be essential for the Yankees as they need a center fielder now.
He’s just one of many targets the Yankees will look at before the deadline. New York knows it doesn’t have an easy MLB schedule today.
Late Additions To The All-Star Game
The Orioles have added two more players to the All-Star Game ahead of the weekend. Thanks to injuries, Jordan Westburg and Anthony Santander are now American League All-Stars.
They’ll join Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Corbin Burnes to give the Orioles five players in the All-Star Game.
The Orioles are at the top of the Major League Baseball standings because of these all-stars.

Gerrit Cole vs Cade Povich
The Yankees will look to get back to winning with Gerrit Cole on the mound. Cole has a 6.75 ERA, but he’s an accomplished veteran with proven success.
It’s just hard to imagine his success right now.
Cole has a 6.75 ERA since returning to the mound. He’s also allowed a .275 ISO and wOBA of .409 with only 28% of ground balls induced.
In addition, Cole has given up 30% of fly balls and 26% of line drives with more than 10% of walks. These aren’t ace-like numbers.
Meanwhile, the Orioles projected lineup has hit a .216 ISO and wOBA of .371 over the last 30 days against righties. The lineup has also struck out only 18.5% and has walked 8% of the time against righties during the previous month.
Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Santander, Jordan Westburg, Heston Kjerstad, and Cedric Mullins have put up above-average numbers and have been consistent against righties. They’ve all got good matchups against Cole on paper. Our MLB predictions believe the Orioles will hit the ball well against Cole.

Don’t Rule The Yankees Out
While the Orioles have a lot of potential tonight, so do the Yankees.
New York’s lineup isn’t hitting like the Orioles. But the Yankees are facing Cade Povich, a lefty thrower for the Orioles who has allowed a .239 ISO and wOBA of .365 to 125 batters this year.
Povich is a young starter who has added only 14.4% of strikeouts. He’s also walked 10.4% of batters. Like Cole, Povich has given up more fly balls than ground balls induced, earning only 7.5% of swinging strikes.
Furthermore, the lefty has allowed a 13% barrel percentage, earning only 16.2% of whiffs.
The main production will come from Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. It’s been like that from day one. However, Jahmai Jones and Gelyber Torres have proven they can hit for power against lefties over the last 30 days.
The Yankees also should create more havoc on the basepaths. They’ve walked 12.3% of the time against lefties over the last month with their projected lineup. If they can get some guys on base for Soto and Judge, the Yankees will also add a good amount of runs.
Therefore, consider the Over 9 (-105) for tonight’s Game 1. It’s not worth looking at the Yankees vs Orioles runline. However, if you want to bet one, consider the Yankees at -1.5 with Cole on the mound. He’s got more potential overall than Povich.
