Could The White Sox’s Starters Outperform Arizona’s This Weekend?

White Sox vs D'Backs Betting: You Won't Regret Betting on Chicago!

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to get back to .500 with a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

To do that, the Diamondbacks would have to sweep the White Sox at home. But they wouldn’t be the first team to do that and likely wouldn’t be the last team, either.

The White Sox are just 18-52 on the season and currently the worst team in the MLB. With the addition of Luis Robert back in the lineup, Chicago has a little more firepower. But it’s already proven that it is not enough for the White Sox to overcome all of the losses they’ve earned recently.

That said, the White Sox have a couple of really good pitchers on the bump this weekend. That could keep the Diamondbacks on their heels. It’s also why the Diamondbacks need to find a way to win tonight’s matchup against the White Sox.

Arizona is currently -170 on the moneyline, with the total up to 9. However, the Under is still juiced to -113 and favored against the Over.

Below, we’ll prove the White Sox vs D’Backs betting preview for this weekend’s series.

Trade Candidate Talk In Chicago

With only 18 wins on the season, the White Sox will likely take in the best package for some of their higher-caliber players. After all, the White Sox won’t be competing for a few years and won’t need the stars they’ve got right now.

The five players on the radar of contending teams include SS Paul DeJong, OF Tommy Pham, SP Erick Fedde, SP Garrett Crochet, and OF Luis Robert.

Corbin Carroll Coming Out Of Slump

The Diamondbacks’ outfielder, Corbin Carroll, had a brutal sophomore slump to begin the season. Arizona even tried adding him in multiple spots in the order to try and get Carroll going.

Although it’s mid-June, Carroll is finally starting to heat up. Carroll has hit a .417 average in the last six games with a 1.083 OPS. He’s also added three extra-base hits and two stolen bases.

Chris Flexen vs. Ryne Nelson

The White Sox will give Chris Flexen the ball to begin the series. Flexn has a 5.06 ERA this season and has really struggled against right-handed hitters over the last 30 days. Righties have hit a .185 ISO and wOBA of .348 against Flexen in that span. They’ve also struck out only 14.8% of the time against Flexen in the last month.

Meanwhile, Arizona’s projected lineup hasn’t hit for much power against righties. Still, the Diamondbacks have combined to hit a .320 wOBA with 8.1% of walks. They’ll get on base and need a couple of clutch hits against Flexen to do damage.

On the other hand, Ryne Nelson will get the call for Arizona. He’s a righty who has allowed a .234 ISO and wOBA of .454 to his last 55 righties. Like Flexen, Nelson has been awful against righties as a right-handed pitcher.

That said, the White Sox have three right-handed hitters who have hit above-average against righties in the last 30 days. That includes Luis Robert, Andrew Vaughn, and Paul DeJong.

Therefore, consider the Over 9 (-107) in the series’ first game. It’s one of our best MLB bets today.

Saturday, 10:10 pm ET

Erick Fedde vs. Zac Gallen

In the second matchup, Erick Fedde will get the start. He’s been one of the more consistent players on the White Sox. It’s also one of the reasons why he’ll be a name mentioned in many trades before the deadline.

That said, he’s holding a 3.10 ERA on the season and has allowed just a .113 ISO and wOBA of .304 to his last 125 batters. He’ll likely hold his own against an Arizona lineup that, again, doesn’t earn many extra-base hits against righties.

On the other hand, Arizona hasn’t announced a pitcher for Game 2 just yet. They’re hoping it’s Zac Gallen, who is coming off a hamstring injury. He had thrown a bullpen session and could make a return. If it’s not Gallen, the Diamondbacks will have to use a sixth starter or run with a bullpen game.

Therefore, we’d back the White Sox in Game 2 regardless of who pitches for Arizona. Arizona’s MLB schedule isn’t getting easier after all.

Even if Gallen does return, don’t expect him to throw more than five innings per our White Sox vs D’Backs betting preview.

Sunday, 4:10 pm ET

Drew Thorpe vs. Jordan Montgomery

Chicago will finish out the series with Drew Thorpe. He’s a rookie pitcher who held his first 22 batters to a .150 ISO and wOBA of .236. He will be really good and likely won’t have many hiccups against the Diamondbacks.

Conversely, he’ll face Jordan Montgomery, a lefty who has had many hiccups this season. Montgomery has a 6.58 ERA and isn’t worth the big contract Arizona gave him during the offseason.

The Diamondbacks could be in trouble this series, even at home. Consider the White Sox as long as they’re underdogs in this one. That’ll be one of our free MLB picks of the day.
