Cubs Will Try To Play Spoiler Against Twins
Twins vs Cubs Best Bets, Preview, and Odds

Fresh off a three-game beatdown of the Chicago White Sox, the red-hot Minnesota Twins — winners of four-straight — head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Cubs, who have won four of five.
Minnesota scored 29 runs in their weekend sweep of the lowly White Sox to extend their losing streak to 20 games and now they’ll try to keep it rolling against Chicago’s other team, which is on the outside looking in of the National League Wild Card race.
When making Twins vs Cubs best bets, note that the Twins are -125 moneyline favorites and +135 at -1.5 on the runline. The total is eight runs with the over sightly juiced at -115.

Minnesota is 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central, 3.5 games behind the New York Yankees for the first Wild Card spot, and is just a half-game up on the division rival Kansas City Royals for the second Wild Card spot.
The Twins would love to add to their cushion while their offense scores tons of runs. MLB expert picks involving Minnesota’s offense are hot right now.
Chicago has gotten timely hitting and solid overall pitching during the Cubs’ recent upswing in which they took three of four from the hated St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cubs are six games off the pace in the NL Wild Card battle but with the addition of Isaac Paredes and a lineup that may be turning a corner, there is plenty of time for Craig Counsell’s club to make a serious MLB playoff push.

Twins’ Offense Is Cooking
Minnesota is in the top ten in almost every major offensive category on the season but the Twins have taken it up a notch during their winning streak.
- Granted, the 29 runs they scored against the White Sox come with the caveat that the White Sox may be the worst team in MLB history.
That’s nothing to scoff at and neither is the eight runs they put up on a good Mets team to start the streak. The Twins vs Cubs best bets certainly involve Minnesota putting up some runs in this series, especially in the opener against Kyle Hendricks.
Even with Carlos Correa on the injured list, Minnesota is getting great production from up and down its lineup.
Royce Lewis has been incredible (when healthy), José Miranda and Byron Buxton continue to shine, Matt Wallner has impressed a lot, Carlos Santana is as steady as it gets and Ryan Jeffers and Willi Castro have done great in bigger roles than they were expected to have before the season.
With such good depth, the Twins don’t have many holes. This makes it hard for opposing MLB teams to try and stop them. They don’t steal many bases but also don’t have to because they hit homers and get on base a lot.
The pressure is always on the pitcher which is why the Twins are one of the best MLB bets today.

Hendricks Is A Concern
Starting pitching has carried the Cubs all season but the veteran Hendricks — sporting a 6.86 ERA — has dragged the rotation down. Every other Chicago starter has an ERA in the 3s while Hendricks is in the midst of his worst season as a Major Leaguer.
- Because Hendricks is starting in Monday’s series opener, the Twins vs Cubs best bets favor Minnesota big-time despite how the Twins’ starter is inexperienced rookie David Festa.
Hendricks’ home runs, walks, and hits are all up and while he hasn’t been as bad recently as he was at the beginning of the year, the numbers speak for themselves.
Shōta Imanaga and Javier Assad will get the nod on Tuesday and Wednesday against Pablo López and Joe Ryan and should give Chicago a better chance of winning.
It may be ugly for Hendricks to try and face this balanced and powerful Twins group. He has struggled in his last three starts, giving up three or more runs in each and failing to pitch beyond five innings.
Hendricks used to be able to manage with his low velocity but had pinpoint control and sharp breaking pitches that kept the other teams constantly guessing.
When those pitches lose their bite and the command gets shakier, it’s harder to make bats miss.

Take Twins On Runline
Based on the odds, the MLB implied runs have Minnesota as a big favorite, at least in Monday’s MLB matchup. So, it’s smart to take the Twins to win big as +135 on the runline.
The Cubs are playing good baseball but their mediocre offense may not be able to make up for Hendricks and the crooked numbers he may give up.
- That’s also why the over eight runs (-115) is a smart take with both he and Festa — with his 6.98 ERA in four appearances (three starts) — on the mound.
