D’Backs vs Giants Odds: NL West’s Top Two Teams Square Off
Arizona currently leads division by 3.5 games on San Francisco

The top two ballclubs in the National League West will square off when San Francisco hosts Arizona for a three-game series, starting Friday. The Diamondbacks currently own the second-best winning percentage in the NL (.605), but few are as hot as the Giants, 9-1 over their last 10.
The Diamondbacks took three of four from the Giants last month. Who will have the upper hand this weekend at Oracle Park? Let’s assess the D’Backs vs Giants odds.
D’Backs Keep Grip on First
Arizona continues to be one of baseball’s best surprises of the first half. The Diamondbacks lead the NL West with a record of 46-30, 3.5 games better than San Francisco. In the process, the Diamondbacks have seen their divisional odds skyrocket from +6000 in March to +330.
Nevertheless, those odds are still only the third-best in the division, behind both Los Angeles (-125) and San Francisco (+320). Oddsmakers remain skeptical of their staying power despite positive underlying metrics, including a plus-37 run differential.
What’s behind their success? Start with the pitching. With Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly — who is scheduled to start Saturday against San Francisco — the Diamondbacks feature some of the best MLB pitching matchups. At 9-2 with a 2.84 ERA, Gallen is now a +170 favorite to win his first NL Cy Young, leading Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw (+600).
The Diamondbacks rank just 20th in ERA but are 13th in quality starts, with 28.
Rookie Sensation
Could the Diamondbacks have two major award winners? It’s quite possible. Outfielder Corbin Carroll is a heavy -500 favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year. The former first-round pick has been among the best hitters in baseball, batting .298 with 16 home runs and 40 RBI. He’s also swiped 22 bases, tied for fourth-most in MLB.
Those numbers don’t even fully do Carroll justice. His 3.7 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) is better than every player except Tampa Bay shortstop Wander Franco (3.8).
Red-Hot Giants
The Giants are coming off a 10-0 loss to San Diego, which snapped their 10-game winning streak. At 42-33. the Giants are a half-game up on third-place Los Angeles in the MLB standings by division. They still have the second-best odds to win the West at +320, a significant feat considering they were just 11-16 in April.
San Francisco has been solid offensively, ranking seventh in runs, ninth in homers, and 12th in average. It also ranks top 10 in ERA, though manager Gabe Kapler has yet to announce a starter for Saturday. Because of that, expect some D’Backs vs Giants odds movement ahead of the first pitch.
Regardless of who starts, the Giants are formidable late in games with Camilo Doval. The 25-year-old closer is tied for third in MLB with 20 saves. He’s allowed only one run across nine innings this month.
Game 1
Logan Webb vs Zach Davies
Day/Time:
Webb has been steady atop San Francisco’s rotation, going 6-6 with a 3.11 ERA. He’s averaging the second-highest strikeout rate (8.8 K/9) of his career.
Davies has been hit hard, posting a 7.11 ERA across seven starts. He allowed a season-high nine runs (eight earned) over 3.2 innings in his last start, a 12-3 loss to Cleveland on June 18.
The Giants are -1.5 (+115) on the run line and a -170 favorite to win outright, with the Diamondbacks priced at +150. The projected total is 8 juiced to the over at -115, per the D’Backs vs Giants odds.
Game 2
TBD vs Merrill Kelly
Day/Time:
Kelly has put together an All-Star first half for Arizona, going 9-3 with a 2.90 ERA. The 34-year-old right-hander is tied for second in wins, along with Gallen and three others, and is tied for 11th in ERA. He also has 96 strikeouts in 90 innings. San Francisco, meanwhile, has yet to name a starter.
Game 3
Anthony DeScalfani vs Ryne Nelson
Day/Time:
DeScalfani is 4-6 with a 4.38 ERA. The 33-year-old right-hander allowed three runs over five innings in a 7-2 loss to Arizona on May 13. He faces Nelson, who is 3-4 with a 5.31 ERA.
