The Los Angeles Dodgers (69-49) visit the Milwaukee Brewers (67-50) for a four-game series beginning Monday. The Dodgers lead the National League West but have been far from impressive considering their talent. The team isn’t playing with a lot of urgency. There are plenty of veterans on the team, however, and they know what they need to do when it matters. There’s a reason LA is still the favorite in the MLB World Series odds. Milwaukee is running away with the NL Central, leading St. Louis by 7.5 games. The Dodgers vs Brewers preview has Clayton Kershaw and Freddy Peralta as Monday’s starters.

Los Angeles is -109 and the total is 8.5-under (-120).

The Dodgers are No. 11 in team batting average at .252 and third in MLB in home runs. Los Angeles is fourth in on-base percentage and scores 4.92 runs per game. The MLB average is 4.42 runs per game.

On the mound, the Dodgers are No. 7 in team ERA and bullpen ERA. Los Angeles has let a few games get away, as the team has 35 saves in 58 chances.

  • Milwaukee is No. 5 in team batting average and No. 19 in home runs. The Brewers are No. 2 in on-base percentage and third in stolen bases. Milwaukee can keep pressure on the defense, which has served them well this season. The Brewers are scoring 4.89 runs per game. Milwaukee is a lower-scoring team when facing a left-handed pitcher.

Milwaukee’s pitching staff is No. 4 in team ERA and No. 3 in bullpen ERA. The Brewers have 36 saves in 50 attempts. Milwaukee’s pitchers are a little better on the road but have been fairly consistent.

Monday’s Game

Kershaw has made just three starts this season due to his shoulder and hasn’t been that impressive. He’s 0-2 with a 4.38 ERA and the Dodgers are 1-2 in the games he’s started. The Dodgers are watching his pitch count closely and he hasn’t made it to the fifth inning yet.

Peralta is 7-6 with a 4.02 ERA and Milwaukee is 14-9 when he starts. The Brewers are 16-7 in totals with Peralta on the hill, although he’s pitched better than that. Milwaukee is 6-5 when Peralta starts at home and 10-1 in totals. Seven of the 10 overs have gone over the total by one run or less.

The Dodgers had to go extra innings with Pittsburgh on Sunday, which isn’t ideal when starting Kershaw. Los Angeles could have some tired relievers, but they’ll still keep Kershaw in check. The Brewers are scoring 4.03 runs per game against left-handers, but it’s hard to ignore Peralta’s total mark. Most of those games came against totals of 7.5 or 8. Would have to give the slightest of leans to the Brewers.

Tuesday’s Game

The Dodgers vs Brewers preview sees Gavin Stone and Colin Rea as the scheduled starters for Tuesday. Rea is 10-3 with a 3.38 ERA and the Brewers are 8-2 when he starts at home. Milwaukee has won 14 of Rea’s 19 starts overall and is 11-8 in totals.

Stone is 9-5 with a 3.71 ERA for Los Angeles and the Dodgers are 13-8 when he starts, but have lost the last three times he’s gone to the mound. After a brilliant May and June, Stone has struggled lately. His season numbers aren’t bad, but since July 1, LA is 1-5 when he starts and are allowing more than 6.0 runs per game.

Given Stone’s recent problems and Rea’s solid mark at home, the Brewers have to be one of the MLB best bets today.

Wednesday’s Game

Frankie Montas is going to start the game for Milwaukee, while the Dodgers have made a firm commitment to their starter. Jack Flaherty should be up for Los Angeles. The Dodgers did recall Landon Knack after River Ryan went on the MLB injured list Sunday, but LA is 2-0 when Flaherty starts for them.

Montas is 5-8 with a 5.10 ERA this season, but 2-0 when he starts for Milwaukee. The Brewers have scored 24 runs in those two games while allowing 10. That’s something you can’t expect to continue on a consistent basis.

This looks to be a case where the Dodgers are going to have the edge on the mound and LA should be one of your MLB picks today. Los Angeles could be a small favorite due to Flaherty having an edge in the season stats.

Thursday’s Game

The Dodgers are undecided on this one, as well, and it will either be Walker Buehler or Knack. Buehler is hopeful of joining the team in time to pitch on Thursday, but Knack could be nabbed for the start. He could also be sent back down if Buehler takes the mound. Buehler’s last rehab start was his best after he was roughed up in the previous two. The Dodgers were 4-4 in the games Buehler started and 3-5 when Knack started.

The Dodgers vs Brewers preview shows Tobias Myers getting the start for Milwaukee and he’s been solid this season. Myers has a 6-5 record and a 2.79 ERA. The Brewers are 9-8 when Myers starts and 6-2 when he starts at home.

The Brewers are going to be small favorites in this one and Milwaukee looks like to the side to be on here.
