Dodgers vs Phillies Odds: LA Relieved After Reds Encounter

Suarez, Phillies Welcome National League Contending Dodgers

Dodgers-Phillies Series Opener Could be High-Scoring Affair

The Los Angeles Dodgers struggled to seal the deal facing a Cincinnati team that was calling up top prospects from the minor leagues. Will their luck change when they head to meet the Phillies? Let’s take a look at the Dodgers vs Phillies odds.

With all the pitchers that the Dodgers could have been starting in a series opener in June when the MLB season began, the 26-year-old Michael Grove would not have been at the top of the list. He is still looking for his first win of the season. He did match his career-high with seven strikeouts in his appearance.

Of course, 12 games pitched over the last two seasons, it is a small sample size. He made his MLB debut against the Phillies in 2022, giving up four hits and four runs in 3.2 innings.

Ranger Suarez will get the start for the Phillies. He surrendered just one run on eight hits in seven innings to pick up his first win of the season the last time out.

The offense has not been the issue for the Dodgers as they had 24 home runs and 42 extra-base hits in a recent 11-game stretch. The Phillies are batting .250 over the last 12 games.

According to the MLB odds, the Dodgers (+600) are tied for third in the odds to win the World Series. The Phillies (+3300) are 12th in the championship odds.

When looking at the MLB divisional standings, the Dodgers are in second place in the National League West while the Phillies are fighting it out with the New York Mets for third place in the National League East.

Doing A Little Bit Extra

Heading into Thursday’s series finale with the Cincinnati Reds, Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez has displayed a power surge.

Martinez has at least one extra-base hit in eight of nine games with nine of his last 11 hits being either doubles or home runs.

He had a stretch with 10 home runs in 15 games. He is one of three Dodgers with at least 15 home runs this season.

Going into Thursday’s action, 12 of the Dodgers’ last 16 games finished over the total and so have the last five road games. That could factor into the Dodgers vs Phillies odds.

Nick of Time

It is easy to overlook Nick Castellanos when going down the Phillies’ batting order. He had a recent six-game stretch when it has to ignore his impact as he batted .542 with four extra-base hits and a slugging percentage of .875. Keep that in mind when looking at the Dodgers vs Phillies odds.

The Phillies are 15-9 when Castellanos has at least two hits and 5-14 when he is held without a hit going into Thursday’s series finale against Detroit.

During a recent stretch, five of the eight Phillies’ games finished under the total.

  • Caleb Ferguson, Los Angeles Dodgers P: Ferguson allowed two hits, walked four batters and surrendered five runs in 1.1 innings in his first two appearances in June.
  • Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers 1B: Freeman was 3-for-22 with three strikeouts in his first games in June as his average dropped from .346 to .328.
  • Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies OF: Marsh was 0-for-9 with six strikeouts in the final two games of the series with Washington and series opener against Detroit.

Dodgers vs Phillies Injury Update

Infielder Miguel Rojas is dealing with tightness in his neck for the Dodgers while pitchers Daniel Hudson and Alex Reyes are expected back at some point in June.

For the Phillies, infielders Alec Bohm and Darick Hall as well as outfielder Cristian Pache could return by the end of the month as could relief pitcher Jose Alvarado.

Dodgers vs Phillies Betting Preview

  • It has been a bit of a grind in recent games for teams expected to be in contention for the National League pennant.
