Major League Baseball Thursday Recap
Small Schedule, Big Win for House

Our MLB Thursday recap has to start with the San Francisco Giants visiting the Arizona Diamondbacks in what was one of the heaviest wagered-on games of the season with 65,804 bets across our monitored platforms.
The lack of games on the MLB schedule aided that number, but this turned out to be one of the best wins for the bookmakers all season. We’ll look at that game as well as a match-up that did hot for the players. Then we’ll conclude with MLB news of another trend that you can take with you this weekend.
Cobb, Giants Score Big For Bookies
Of the before-mentioned tickets written on this MLB match-up, the public was convinced that Arizona (+125) was the side. 80% of the total money line tickets were written in hopes that the Diamondbacks could take the opener of a four-game series after dropping three of their first five on their current homestand.
Giants starter, Alex Cobb, ran his record to 3-1 (1.70 era) after pitching a shutout for seven innings, allowing just seven hits in the process. SS Casey Schmitt was 4-4, driving his average up to .667 after eight at-bats, a good way to start your MLB career. Tommy Henry (1-1, 4.43) took the loss but pitched well. San Francisco is a -118 favorite today (Wood vs Nelson), 71% of the early moneyline bets are on the Giants.
Classic ‘Pro’s’ vs. ‘Joe’s’ Hits for Bettors
Our Thursday MLB recap spotlights the Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals match-up that proved to be a big win for the betting public. 78% of the wagers were on the Kansas City Royals, wagers that were less about the Royals (12-27) and more about the fact that no one trust the Chicago White Sox. (13-26).
The number in the desert didn’t move much despite the high percentage of money coming in on the Royals. The books were begging for Royals money, confident that Chicago starter Mike Clevinger could deliver a winner, considering the Sox offense has been hitting bombs and are in the upper half of the league in doubles.
Chicago tied it up in the eighth inning at 3-3 on a Luis Robert Jr, double, but the Royals answered in their last at-bat after Freedy Fermin laid down a bunt on a safety squeeze to score Nick Pratto to give KC and bettors a needed win.
The Royals, who took three of four from Chicago, have won four of their last five games with each victory coming as an underdog. The Royals start one of their biggest road trips of the season in Milwaukee, Friday, the first of nine straight away from Kauffman Stadium. The Sox come home to take on the Houston Astros this weekend, followed by the Cleveland Guardians before a return date with the Royals.
Chicago has won six of their last 11, but obviously, that record would have looked with at least a split against a poor KC club. Despite the overall winning record in that span, it’s clear that not even Kansas City could get bettors to put their cash behind Chicago. We conclude our Thursday MLB recap, with a look at a managerial betting trend.
Which MLB Managers Are Best With Your Money?
The managers are often the most overlooked people on a field, or at least in the dugout. Take the Pittsburgh Pirates for instance who have been exciting for the first part of the year before various injuries have forced them back to reality.
However, this has been a club that has manager Derek Shelton’s fingerprints all over it. Last season, the Bucs stole 89 bases, good for 14th in the league. This year, Shelton has the Buc’s running a ton which is why they lead the league in stolen bases with 48.
Without further adieu, here are the top three managers over the last three MLB seasons against the moneyline. Coming in at number three is Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash (+1919). In the second spot is Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch (+2249 units), and the number one spot goes to Scott Servais of the Seattle Mariners (+3745 units). That does it for our Thursday MLB recap, we wish you the best this weekend.
