Mets vs Pirates Betting Odds: Mets Aim to End 6-Game Slide
Hill Going for Second Straight Against One of His Many Former Teams
Mets Reeling After Late Meltdown to Extend Losing Streak
Both the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates head into a weekend series in need of some positive results and that will factor into the Mets vs Pirates betting odds.
The Mets have lost six straight games and none more devastating than blowing a 10-6 lead against division rival Atlanta on Thursday. The Pirates might be 6-4 over the last 10 games. However, they are coming off back-to-back losses to the dreadful Oakland Athletics to fall out of first place in the National League Central Division.
Projected Mets starter Tylor Megill went 4-0 in his first five starts of 2022 and since then, he is just 5-5. He is coming off one of his best outings of the season as he surrendered five hits and one run in 5.1 innings, even though he didn’t factor into the decision in Toronto’s 2-1 win.
The last time he faced the Pirates came in 2021 when he made back-to-back starts against Pittsburgh in July when he gave up 11 hits and one run with nine strikeouts in 9.2 innings.
For the Pirates, 43-year-old Rich Hill is set to make his 234th career start. Playing for his 12th MLB franchise since debuting with the Chicago Cubs in 2005, Hill allowed just four hits and one run in a season-high 6.2 innings in his last appearance. He last pitched against the Mets in 2019 when he allowed six hits and two runs in six innings in a 7-3 loss.
When looking at the MLB divisional standings, Pittsburgh is a game out of first place in the National League Central Division with the Mets in fourth place in the NL East.
According to the MLB odds, the Mets (+1800) are eighth in the odds to win the World Series with the Pirates well back at +12500 despite a strong start.
Off On the Wrong Foot
Even with the departure of Jacob de Grom in the offseason, starting pitching was supposed to be a strength for the New York Mets led by likely future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
That certainly hasn’t been the case in recent games as the starters in the last four games (including Scherzer and Verlander) have allowed 28 hits and 18 runs in 16.1 innings over the last four games.
Even with those recent struggles, the Mets vs Pirates betting odds favor the visiting Mets.
Six of the Mets’ last nine games finished under the total.
Hayes Hitting Up A Storm
Ke’Bryan Hayes saw his batting average plummet to .216 in late May when he had three hits in 32 at-bats. It has been a totally different story over his last seven games.
Hayes has at least two hits in four of those contests. He is hitting .483 with a .862 slugging percentage to raise his average to .250.
Hayes struggled against the Mets in 2022 as he was 2-for-21 with eight strikeouts. Perhaps that is a reason why the Pirates are listed as the underdog according to the Mets vs Pirates betting odds.
Four of the last six games played by the Pirates finished under the total.

Mets vs Pirates Injury Update
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who leads the majors with 22 home runs, is questionable after being hit by a pitch in a recent game against Atlanta.
The Pirates have to wait until next month to get first baseman Ji-Man Choi back in the lineup and the wait is even longer for shortstop Oneil Cruz to return to action.
Mets vs Pirates Betting Preview
The good news is that somebody has to win this game.
The Mets have won six straight games against the Pirates with only one of those games being decided by one run. Two of those games were played in Pittsburgh.
The Pirates had won three of four home games against the Mets before dropping the last two meetings at PNC Park.
The Mets are 23-20 when listed as the favorite, but they have covered in just 12 of their first 36 road games.
