MLB AL East Odds: Rays Atop Best Division in Baseball

Can the Surprising Orioles or Preseason Favorite Yankees Catch the MLB-Leading Rays?

Each of the AL East Teams Have Winning Records So Far in 2023

There has been quite the change in the pecking order when it comes to the American League East Division odds since the season began.

Tampa Bay, which has the best records in the majors, was third in the MLB AL East odds and second-place Baltimore had the longest MLB odds to win the division.

This is the only division were all five MLB teams have winning records with the five teams going 115-64 against the other five divisions.

Tampa Bay (+650) is tied for third in the odds to win the World Series. The Yankees (+1100) are fifth, the Blue Jays are tied for sixth at +1600 while Baltimore has yet to win everybody over, with championship odds of +3300.

When looking at the MLB schedules, it should make for some compelling series as the AL East teams will have plenty of MLB matchups against division rivals.

Here’s a look at how the AL East Division odds shake out at the current time.

The injuries to the pitching staff have been a bit concerning but it is hard to overlook the numbers as the Rays have the most runs, hits, home runs, stolen bases, the best on-base and slugging percentage and are in the top five in most pitching categories.

Shane Baz and Jeffrey Springs are among the pitchers who will miss the rest of the season. Getting Tyler Glasnow back has been a big deal. Wander Franco, Randy Arozarena and Yandy Diaz have led the offense.

There have been 34 games played by the Rays that finished over the total, the most in the majors. The Rays were priced at +335 in the MLB AL East odds coming into the season.

Yankees logo New York Yankees +450

The Yankees are third in the division, but come in second in the AL East odds.

The Yankees have hit the most home runs in the month of May even while waiting for Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson to be cleared to return to action.

Reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge is starting to warm up. Looking at the MLB scores, Judge has helped the Yankees score 10 runs in each of the last two games. He leads the majors with a .679 slugging percentage.

It is a bit of an all or nothing offense with the Yankees fourth in home runs compared to 23rd in on-base percentage.

There is still a bit of a wait for the Yankees to get starting pitchers Carlos Rodon and Frankie Montas back. Six relievers are on the injured list as well. The MLB AL East odds listed the Yankees (+110) as the favorite coming into the season.

Orioles logo Baltimore Orioles +750

The Orioles seemed undervalued at +1800 to win the AL East coming into the season. Even with the starting pitching being a little inconsistent, the Orioles are right in the thick of the playoff race.

Baltimore is just four games in back of Tampa Bay in the AL East standings and the Orioles’ 18 road wins are tied for the most in the majors.

If the pitching holds up, this could be a dangerous team with a lineup led by Cedric Mullins, Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, Austin Hays, Jorge Mateo and Ryan Mountcastle.

The Orioles are in the top 10 in walks and stolen bases so they aren’t as reliant on the home run as some teams in the division.

Baltimore is third in the majors with a 33-21 run-line record.

Blue Jays logo Toronto Blue Jays +900

Toronto was the No. 2 choice to win the division when the season began. Now the Blue Jays come in fourth after a recent stretch when they dropped eight of 10 games with seven of those losses coming to fellow AL East teams.

With Bo Bichette, Vlad Guerrero Jr., Matt Chapman and George Springer leading the way, there are plenty of big bats in the lineup.

Starting pitchers Jose Berrios, Alek Manoah and Yusei Kikuchi need to show more consistency for the Blue Jays to make some noise in the AL East.

Red Sox logo Boston Red Sox +2500

With Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez the latest big hitters to head elsewhere, not much was expected from the Red Sox this season.

Boston made some noise with an eight-game winning streak in late April and early May. Since then, the Red Sox are 7-11.

The Red Sox have the sixth-best winning percentage in the American League so they have played better than expected.

Adam Duvall was ripping it up before being sidelined and he could return in June. It will be a longer wait for second baseman Trevor Story to return to the field.
