Monday was full of surprises across Major League Baseball Matchups. Underdogs had a decided edge to start the week, winning eight of 12 contests on the slate. That includes the Dodgers’ 8-6 victory over the Braves, in a matchup of the National League’s two best ball clubs.

Let’s take a more detailed look at MLB Monday Results in our betting recap.

It’s a ‘Dogs Day

The underdogs enjoyed a big start to the week, going 8-4 straight up in MLB Monday Results. The Cincinnati Reds overcame the longest odds at +165, edging the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 in 10 innings. Third baseman Nick Senzel plated the walk-off run on a sacrifice fly. Shortstop Paul DeJong homered and drove in four runs for the Cardinals.

The Arizona Diamondbacks also beat the odds at +145, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3. Outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. provided the offense, going 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Kyle Schwarber hit a long ball of his own, his 12th of the season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (+125) won as well, beating the Texas Rangers 6-4. Shortstop Tucupita Marcano’s seventh-inning grand slam off reliever Joe Barlow ultimately made the difference for Pittsburgh. Texas outfielder Adolis Garcia, the MLB leader with 49 RBI, went 0-for-4.

Overs Outperform

MLB teams combined to average 9.4 runs, with the Over going 7-3-2 in MLB Monday Results. The Houston Astros hammered the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 in the highest-scoring game of the day. Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez carried Houston at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI, including a sixth-inning grand slam off reliever Hoby Milner. Alvarez now has 46 RBI, second in the majors per MLB player stats. Corey Junks, Martin Maldonado, and Mauricio Dubon also homered, as Houston beat ace right-hander Corbin Burnes.

Los Angeles and Atlanta also combined for 14 runs. Designated hitter J.D. Martinez was 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs for the Dodgers.

Two other games featured 13 total runs: Detroit’s 8-5 victory over Kansas City and Seattle’s 11-2 win against Oakland.

Happy Homecoming for Freeman

Freddie Freeman, a longtime Braves star, made the most of his return to Atlanta. The 33-year-old first baseman, in his second series at Truist Park since the 2021 World Series, hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning off starter Charlie Morton.

Freeman received a standing ovation before his first at-bat, celebrating his return to the city where he made five All-Star appearances, won a Gold Glove, three Silver Sluggers, and the 2020 NL Most Valuable Player award. He helped lead Atlanta to the World Series title in 2021, its first since 1995.

Freeman is currently batting .328 with nine home runs, 31 RBI, and .968 ops. He is second in the majors in both hits (64) and doubles (18).

D-Backs Surging

In beating the Phillies 6-3, Arizona improved to 28-20 against the run line. That’s the third-best record in the majors. Texas, Baltimore, and Washington are all 30-17 against the run line, ahead of Tampa Bay, which is 29-20.
