MLB: Seattle Mariners In Must-Win Series Against Sox
M’s Trail Astros by One Game in AL West

Seattle as Favorites
The Seattle Mariners (53-51) are behind the Houston Astros in the American League West by a game after losing three straight games and seven of their last eight MLB games. On June 18th, Seattle led the AL West by 10 games with a 44-31 record.
Then the M’s went on a 9-20 run while Houston took full advantage with a 20-9 run. This weekend the Mariners head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago White Sox (27-78) in what is a must-win or some might suggest must-sweep series.
Seattle is a -155 road favorite with a total of 7 (over -120) and will show off their newest acquisition Randy Arozarena after putting together a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET / 5:10 p.m. PT and can be seen on Root Sports Northwest and NBC Sports Chicago. Let’s start our Mariners vs White Sox series preview.
Game 1
Mariners vs White Sox
Day/Time:
Location: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
Streaming: Root Sports Northwest/NBC Sports Chicago
Game One
George Kirby (Sea) 7-7, 3.20 vs Drew Thorpe (CWS) 3-1, 3.03
The Seattle Mariners are 22nd in Major League Baseball against the moneyline with 4.89 units lost after dropping 6.63 units over the last 30 days behind an 8-14 record.
The numbers tell bettors that Seattle’s chances to win the AL West are slowly diminishing, but just when fans may think the Astros will run away with another division title, the worst team in baseball (-37.91 units) shows up.
With Houston battling the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend, the M’s would serve themselves well by sweeping the White Sox.
George Kirby comes in on a two-game run that has seen the upstate New York Native (Rye) allow just two earned runs in his last 12 innings pitched against the Astros and Los Angeles Angels. Seattle has lost five of six with Kirby on the mound, scoring just 3.15 runs per game in support.
With Chicago 30 games out in the MLB wild card standings, we see the White Sox trot out young pitchers in preparation for next season.
Drew Thorpe will be making his eighth start of the MLB season after allowing just five earned runs in his last 30.1 innings (1.48 era) with just 13 hits allowed. We recommend looking at the over in game one.
Game Two
Bryan Woo (Sea) 4-1, 2.54 vs Erick Fedde (CWS) 7-3, 2.98
For an MLB team that is 51 games under .500, they do have a decent starting staff. Former UNLV star, Erick Fedde will look to win his eighth game of the season against three losses after putting a string of three straight strong starts together.
Over his last 17.1 innings, Fedde has allowed just 3 earned runs, forcing the White Sox to field calls about his availability as we approach the trade deadline. Woo will pitch the first half of the game and then drop it off to his pen as usual.
The former Cal Bear was terrific in his last start against the Astros (5.2IP, 4H, 2 ER, 0BB, 5 K) but recent MLB pitching stats show that Woo has been shaky with 13 earned over his last 22 innings (5.32).
We will look at the White Sox when the number comes out late Friday. Let’s conclude our Mariners vs White Sox preview with our game three MLB prediction for Sunday.
Game Three
Bryce Miller (Sea) 7-7, 3.41 vs Garrett Crochet (CWS) 6-7, 3.07
In what could be a massive game for the Seattle Mariners if the Sox grab one of the first two games, the starting pitching favors Chicago and Crochet in game three.
The fifth-year pro may be just 9-14 in his MLB career, but a 2.93 ERA tells you that run support is a massive problem for Chicago and Crochet. Indeed that’s the case with the former Tennessee Volunteer star getting just 2.53 runs per start.
Our goal this weekend is to get a win with the White Sox at some point and then get out of the series. We know the public will be all over the Mariners when they put Arozarena in the line-up, that will be the day we load up on Chicago. That does it for our Mariners vs White Sox preview, all the best with your MLB picks and parlays.
