MLB Wednesday Recap: Favorites Flourish on Wednesday
Overs, Unders, Fav's Dogs, Finding Consistency is Key

The MLB Wednesday recap shows it was a good, but not great, day to bet favorites. Favorites were 11-4, but did see the largest-priced favorite on the card lose in San Diego. The loss on the Padres saw favorites of -265 or higher drop to 26-4 on the season. The huge favorites have been solid bets all season, especially with how they have struggled in the early going.
All favorites are 371-265 (58.3%) but with an average lay price of -153, wagering to win $100 on each favorites has produced a loss of $4,330. Underdogs haven’t been a whole lot better. A $100 wager on each underdog has produced a loss of $2,860. The sportsbook has done an excellent job with lines so far.
The MLB Wednesday recap shows totals were 8-6-1 on the day and 313-302-21 on the year. Flat-betting the over or the under has produced a loss this season. Over bettors would be down $2,468, while flat-betting the under has shown a $4,346 loss.
Rich Hill Delivers for Pirates
The day started out pretty rough for chalk bettors, as Eduardo Rodriguez and the Tigers were -160 over Hill and the Pirates. Hill turned in his best effort of the season, allowing one hit over six innings and Pittsburgh won 8-0. The total was 7.5 and the Pirates put the game over in the total in the seventh inning.
Rockies Win Slugfest Over Reds
The Rockies and Reds had the highest-scoring game on Wednesday’s MLB schedule. The Reds grabbed an early 5-0 lead but the Rockies tied it with five runs in the fifth. Colorado scored six runs in the sixth to send the game over 11.5 and took the 11-6 victory.
Athletics Continue to Struggle
The Oakland A’s are still finding it difficult to win. The Diamondbacks scored two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth to take a 5-3 win. The A’s dropped to 10-35 on the season and 10-34 when made an underdog.
Padres Lose as Large Favorites
Yu Darvish and the Padres were close to -270 favorites over the Royals, but couldn’t complete a comeback and fell 4-3. The Royals broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the sixth. The Padres scored two runs of their own, but that was it and Kansas City held on for the victory.
Blue Jays Win Pitcher’s Duel
The MLB Wednesday recap shows the game between the Yankees and Blue Jays was expected to be settled by the pitchers. They didn’t disappoint, with Chris Bassitt and Gerrit Cole both brilliant on the mound. The teams went to the 10th inning scoreless and Toronto won with a three-run homer by Danny Jansen.
Mets Edge Tampa Bay
It’s practically news when the Tampa Bay Rays end up with a loss and they suffered one on Wednesday. The Mets won a wild one in 10 innings by an 8-7 margin. New York rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. The Mets needed three runs in the bottom of the 10th to take the win. The Rays led 1-0 after six innings before the fireworks started. The Rays may have the best record in baseball, but the MLB leaders are now just 3-3 as an underdog after Wednesday.
Cubs Bettors Dealt Bad Beat
The toughest loss for bettors on the MLB Wednesday recap would have to go to those who bet Chicago +153 against Houston. The Cubs led 6-1 after seven innings. The Astros scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-3 and won with four runs in the bottom of the ninth. The first five Houston batters reached base in the ninth inning and the Cubs managed to lose a game they seemingly had wrapped up.
