MLB Weekend Betting Recap: Overs Have Stellar Showing

Favorites Show Slimmest of Profits During Weekend

You can’t look at the MLB weekend betting recap without noticing how well the overs did Saturday and Sunday. A 19-11 mark for the weekend is nothing to scoff at. Totals were 9-6 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday.

The favorites started off strong over the weekend but stumbled down the stretch Sunday. The favorites were 1-2 in Sunday’s late-day games and then Atlanta was thumped in the Sunday night game. The betting favorites still showed the slightest of profits, going 18-12 for +.85 units.

It also wasn’t a great weekend to be at home. Teams playing in front of the home fans were just 7-8 on Saturday and Sunday. That keeps up with the season-long trend that has seen home teams win less than half of their games in the early going. Nobody has felt that pinch more than home underdogs. After going just 3-7 over the weekend, home dogs are 16-31 this season with an ROI of -22.87%.

Saturday Games

A number of bettors cashed big on the St. Louis Cardinals and Jordan Montgomery. After opening -135, the Cardinals were bet up to the -160/165 range and never made their backers sweat. St. Louis scored two runs in the first and four in the third on their way to a 6-0 victory.

The Red Sox and Tigers gave over bettors an easy victory. Those who wagered on the over 8 could do no worse than a push after the top of the third inning. Detroit sent the game over the total in the bottom of the fourth. Boston went on to win 14-5.

The MLB scores weren’t kind to Cincinnati Reds backers. Leading 2-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Reds proceeded to allow three runs for the Phillies to take the 3-2 victory.

The MLB weekend betting recap also had a tough one for San Francisco bettors to take. Leading 5-1 after six innings, the Giants allowed five runs to the Royals, who rallied for a 6-5 victory. The loss wasted a solid outing by Sean Manaea, who allowed three hits and one run in six innings. Ross Stripling allowed four runs and two homers in 1 2/3 innings.

Sunday Games

The Cincinnati Reds stole a game back from the Phillies. The Reds scored one run in the eighth and three in the top of the ninth to take a 6-4 victory. The Reds were +175 underdogs in the game. Jake Fraley‘s three-run double in the ninth also sent the game over the total of 8.5.

The Tampa Bay Rays made it nine straight to open the season after pounding Oakland 11-0. Those taking the Rays on the alternate line and laying 2.5 or 3.5 runs are cashing their tickets. All nine of Tampa Bay’s victories have been by four or more runs.

The MLB weekend betting recap has to mention the Pittsburgh Pirates getting just two hits but still picking up a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Jack Suwinski’s sacrifice flies to score Canaan Smith-Njigba in the second inning was the only run of the game. The Pirates are a surprising 6-3 in the MLB team standings.

The Guardians scored two runs in the bottom of the 12th to take a 7-6 victory over Seattle. Cleveland sent the game to extra-innings on Will Brennan’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth. Both teams scored two runs in the 11th and after Seattle grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the 12th, the Guardians rallied for the win.

Arizona made it three straight underdog wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers with an 11-6 victory. The Diamondbacks pounded the Dodgers pitching staff for 29 runs in the final three games. The Dodgers opened the four-game series with a 5-2 win on Thursday. But the Diamondbacks took it to the boys in blue in the remaining three games.
