New York Yankees at San Francisco Giants Preview and Odds
Yankees Are Looking Scary Good

The West Coast has been just as kind to the New York Yankees as the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium are as Aaron Boone’s team continues to roll through whichever teams it is matched up with.
The Padres and Angels were New York’s latest victims as the Yankees took series from both of them and will look to end their road trip on a high note this weekend in San Francisco against the suddenly resurgent Giants.
- If you’re making Yankees vs Giants predictions, the Yankees are -127 moneyline favorites in Friday’s opener and are +130 at -1.5 runs on the runline. The total is a very low 7.5 runs.
New York is coming off an 8-3 blowout win over the Angels on Thursday night, in which the Yankees got another great start from Carlos Rodón.
In fact, the Yankees have gotten 17 consecutive starts of 5+ innings with two runs or fewer allowed which is a MLB record. Even without Gerrit Cole, New York’s rotation has been incredible and it carried the Yankees for large portion of this MLB season when the offense was cold.

Now, with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto scorching hot, run scoring hasn’t been an issue. As far as free MLB picks go, the Yankees have been very reliable.
The Giants shouldn’t be overlooked, however. They’ve won four series in a row, 10 of their last 13 games overall, and have climbed back over .500 despite dealing with a few major position player MLB injuries.
The offense has come alive a bit, especially Matt Chapman, who is starting to play like the guy the Giants were looking to acquire when they signed him this offseason.
Still, without Michael Conforto, LaMonte Wade Jr., and Jung Hoo Lee, San Francisco has had to dig deep to find offensive contributors.

New York Is Firing On All Cylinders
In addition to having what have statistically been the best or second-best starting rotation and bullpen, the Yankees are first in the Majors in on-base percentage, OPS and home runs.
Yankees vs Giants predictions may focus on the pitching component of this MLB matchup because of how dominant New York has been in that area, but offensively, the Yankees are pretty terrifying right now.
As expected, most of that production is coming from Judge — who has had a historic month of May after a cold April — and Soto, who fit together in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the New York lineup like gloves.
But, it’s what some of the other guys in that order have done, the likes of Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Volpe to name a few, that has allowed the Yankees to lead the AL East over the Baltimore Orioles.
The lineup is fairly top-heavy but it’s hard to get through the first five or six batters unscathed.
When you can combine that kind of offensive firepower with a consistent rotation and shut-down bullpen, you immediately become one of the best MLB bets today regardless of who you’re facing off against.
The Giants will catch a break in that Yankee starter Clarke Schmidt is out with a lat strain and will be replaced by journeyman Cody Poteet on Saturday.
But, Marcus Stroman (Friday’s starter) and Nestor Cortes Jr. (Sunday’s) have both been very good and should give New York solid starts.
Giants Have Top Starters Going
San Francisco’s pitching staff has been mediocre overall yet the Giants have their three best arms lined up for the weekend, which is worth noting for your Yankees vs Giants predictions.
NL Cy Young candidate Logan Webb will take the mound on Friday and Jordan Hicks — who has turned into one of the better offseason signings any MLB team has made — will go Saturday.
Blake Snell, another Giants free agent pickup, has been terrible thus far with San Francisco after signing late and essentially having no Spring Training.
So, while Snell’s numbers are ugly — 10.42 ERA, 2.00 WHIP — he’s still a two-time Cy Young Award winner who has elite stuff and a lengthy track record.
At some point, he will figure things out and even though it’s not easy for anyone to face the Yankees’ lineup, Snell has been a rotation ace for a long time. He looked a little better in a recent start against the tough Phillies, striking out seven in four innings, which is a sign that he might be turning a corner.
Even if Snell struggles again, the Giants are in good hands for their Yankees game today with Webb and for Saturday with Hicks.
Webb is a groundball machine and when the Yankees struggle, it’s because guys like Judge, Soto and Stanton are rolling over pitches and hitting into double plays. That, plus the pitcher-friendly nature of Oracle Park, could bode well for the Giants’ ace.
Consider Yankees On Runline
While Webb matches up well against the Yankees, that’s less true for Hicks. Stroman has been solid all year for New York and he should be able to handle a patchwork Giants lineup that is just missing so many key pieces right now.
You can take the Yankees straight up at -127 on the moneyline or, if you’re very confident, for them to cover the -1.5 runs at +130.
- The total is a low 7.5 runs but the under (-105) is enticing with two good pitchers on the mound.
