NL Leaders, Milwaukee and Philly, Slug It Out

Brewers vs Phillies Betting: Philadelphia to be Tough at Home

The Milwaukee Brewers visit the Philadelphia Phillies in a battle of division leaders. The Brewers bring a four-game winning streak into the contest. The Brewers vs Phillies betting odds have Philadelphia -210 and the total is 8.5-under (-115). The Phillies are Even on the run line at -1.5 runs.

The Phillies lost against St. Louis on Sunday night to end their three-game winning streak. The Brewers officially haven’t listed any of their MLB starting pitchers for the series, although it should be Bryse Wilson getting the ball for the Brewers against Zack Wheeler for Philadelphia.

The Brewers are No. 8 in team batting average, so they’re hitting the ball well enough. Milwaukee is also No. 8 in home runs, so they have a bit of pop in the bat. The Brewers are averaging 5.1 runs per game overall and 4.8 runs per game away from home.

The pitching staff has been pretty solid so far this season, with Milwaukee sitting No. 10 in team ERA. The bullpen has thrown well and the team’s away numbers are a little bit better than its home numbers. The Brewers have 19 saves and seven blown saves on the season. The Milwaukee Brewers standings owe quite a bit to the relievers, who have been solid, but also have bounced back after a poor outing.

The Phillies are averaging 5.2 runs per game and 5.7 runs at home. Philadelphia is No. 6 in team batting average and tied for sixth in home runs. Having Bryce Harper, one of the MLB home run leaders, helps in that regard.

Pitching has been the strong suit of the Phillies, with the team ranking No. 2 in team ERA. The starting pitchers have been exceptionally strong. The bullpen has been better than average, but not quite as dominant as the starters have been.

Monday’s Game

The Brewers vs Phillies betting odds on this game are higher than expected. Part of that could have to do with Milwaukee not listing its pitcher. The Brewers are 4-3 when Wilson starts although he’s not giving you many innings. He hasn’t made it to five innings in any of his last three starts.

Wheeler is posting some impressive numbers, but the Phillies haven’t given him a lot of run support. Despite a 2.32 ERA, Philadelphia is just 6-6 when Wheeler takes the mound. The Phillies are 4-8 in totals when Wheeler starts. Coupled with Milwaukee’s 1-6 totals record when Wilson starts, the under at 8.5 looks to be one of the MLB picks today.

Tuesday’s Game

Colin Rea is the likely starter for the Brewers here, as he’s been following Wilson in the rotation. The Phillies have named Cristopher Sanchez as their starter. Rea is having a pretty good season, with Milwaukee 7-3 when he takes the mound. His home numbers are a bit better than his numbers on the road. Milwaukee is 4-2 when he starts as an underdog on the season.

Sanchez has done a decent job for the Phillies. He’s pitching to a 2.69 ERA, although Philadelphia is just 5-6 when he starts. He’s been brilliant at home where his ERA is just 1.74. Depending on the number, there could be a bit of value with the Brewers in this game. If you can get Milwaukee +130 or more, you have to bite on the underdog.

Wednesday’s Game

It’s more of the same for the Brewers here, although Tobias Myers would be next in line. He had a rough outing his last start, so it’s possible Milwaukee will make a move before Wednesday. His two previous starts weren’t that bad, so he may get one more opportunity.

The Phillies will go with Aaron Nola in the finale and the Brewers vs Phillies betting odds will see Philadelphia as a huge favorite. Philadelphia is 10-2 when Nola starts this season and 5-2 when he starts at home. Nola is a bit overpriced most of the time he takes the mound, but as long as you continue to win, it doesn’t make much difference. The Phillies are 5-6-1 in totals when Nola starts. If you’re going to play the Phillies, you’ll pay a hefty price, so the run line might be the best option.
