Orioles vs Rangers Betting: Both Lineups Have Struggled

Will The All-Star Start Affect Corbin Burnes Tonight?

The Baltimore Orioles finished the first half of the season with the second-best record in the American League. They’re 58-38 on the season and currently lead the New York Yankees in the AL East by a game.

However, the Orioles closed out the first half 3-7 over the last ten games. The offense finally started to slow down slightly, raising concerns. In addition, the Orioles still need another reliable starting pitcher. Until then, the Orioles’ starting rotation is more concerned.

The MLB Trade Deadline is approaching soon, and the Orioles will surely be buyers. But how willing will they be to part with prospects to get a big-name starter or hitter that can help produce and get them into the MLB playoffs?

This weekend’s series against the Texas Rangers will share much about where the Orioles are now. The Rangers, who were World Series champions last year, are four games below. 500. They’re not in the AL Playoff Picture now but want to be there before the deadline. The Rangers have already said they’re looking to be buyers as long as the team can show consistency to begin the second half.

That said, many baseball executives and fans will be watching this series, including Game 1 between the Rangers and Orioles, closely.

The MLB betting lines have the Orioles at -122 on the moneyline, with the total currently sitting at 7.5

Here’s a look at the Orioles vs Rangers betting preview for Game 1 of this exciting American League battle.

Can The Orioles Land Help?

The Baltimore Orioles lead the AL East and are in line to make the playoffs. They’ve got a great team, but this great team has struggled recently and can use some help.

Baltimore has been linked to many different pitchers heading into the second half. They’ve been linked to Garrett Crochet of the White Sox, Tarik Skubal of the Tigers, and Mason Miller of the Athletics.

Those are three of the best arms in baseball right now. But we’ll see if they’re willing to shell out top prospects for a chance at a World Series.

Rangers At A Crossroad

The Texas Rangers won a World Series last season, so they know they’ve got what it takes to win another one. However, they haven’t played as well as they did last year. Their offense has been relatively quiet throughout the season.

Meanwhile, the starting pitching hasn’t impressed either. The Rangers started the season without Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and Tyler Mahle.

deGrom and Mahle are still unavailable but could return in the second half of the season.

Therefore, the Rangers need to decide if they believe those injured pitchers can contribute enough in the second half of the season to at least get into the playoffs. We’ll see what the Rangers choose in a few weeks.

Orioles vs Rangers Betting Predictions & Previews

⚾ Game 1 ⚾

Friday, 2:20 pm ET
Corbin Burnes vs. Nathan Eovaldi

The Orioles have made Corbin Burnes the starter despite allowing him to start the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday. Burnes only threw one inning but did allow a couple of base runners before getting out of the jam. The first inning wasn’t exactly the easiest of innings on his arm.

  • Don’t expect Burnes to pitch a complete game. Don’t even think that he’ll go beyond six innings.

However, he still matches up well against the Rangers and should have a good outing.

Burnes has struggled against righties this season, allowing a .281 ISO and wOBA of .330 to his last 59 righties. Yet, the Rangers don’t have righties hitting at a high rate against other righties.

Adolis Garcia has hit a .200 ISO, but he’s also hit a .301 wOBA and has struck out over 30% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.

The other three consistent power bats against righties in the Texas lineup are lefties, between Corey Seager, Josh Smith, and Nathaniel Lowe.

However, Burnes has held lefties to a .089 ISO and wOBA of .292 with more than 54% of ground balls. Likely, Burnes pitches well in this game.

Nathan Eovaldi Can Match Burnes

The Rangers will roll with Nathan Eovaldi for Game 1 of this series. Eovaldi is Texas’ best pitcher. He’s holding a 2.97 ERA on the MLB season and has held his last 129 batters faced to a .104 ISO and wOBA of .242. He might not earn a high rate of strikeouts, but he’ll induce ground balls and limit fly balls at a high rate.

Additionally, the Orioles have struggled to hit over the last couple of weeks. The offense isn’t what it was a month ago. The projected lineup has only hit a wOBA of .330 against righties over the last month.

Therefore, reading our Orioles vs Rangers betting preview, consider taking the Under 7.5 (-110) for tonight’s matchup.
