Padres vs Tigers Betting Odds: San Diego Strong Road Favorites

Both Teams Still Alive in Playoff Chase

The Padres vs Tigers betting odds are likely to have San Diego favored in at least two of the three games of this weekend’s series. San Diego is 6.5 games out in the Major League Baseball standings for a wild card berth. The Detroit Tigers standings have the team 44-52, but only five games out of the division lead due to playing in the AL Central. Both teams could use a series win to bolster their playoff chances.

In Friday’s game, the Padres will send Seth Lugo to the mound, where he’ll face Reese Olson. Lugo and the Padres are -140 and the total on the game is 9-under (-125). San Diego is +115 on the run line.

Lugo is 3-4 with a 3.78 ERA. The Padres have gone 5-8 when he starts this season, but have lost six of his last seven outings. He hasn’t necessarily pitched poorly, but San Diego has lost four one-run games in his last seven starts.

Olson is 1-3 with a 3.96 ERA. The Tigers are 3-3 when he starts this season after dropping his first two starts of the season. He pitched well last time out, but the Tigers lost to Seattle by a 2-0 score.

The Padres are the better offensive team of the two and score a little bit more on the road than at home. San Diego is No. 14 in team batting average compared to Detroit’s No. 28. San Diego is No. 4 in team ERA, so you would expect the Padres to have a little bit better of a record than they do. With a run differential of +42 on the season, the Padres should be 53-44 instead of the 46-51 they are.

San Diego looks to be the right side in Friday’s game as a road favorite.

Saturday’s Game

The Padres vs Tigers betting odds note San Diego hasn’t officially named its starter for Saturday’s game. The Tigers are expected to start Matt Manning, who has pitched well in limited action this season. Manning is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA and the Tigers have gone 4-2 when he starts, including 3-1 since he returned after breaking his foot. His last two starts have been his best of the season.

The Padres could go with a bullpen game in this spot. Ryan Weathers was sent back down to the minors, but may be recalled to start this one. This is Detroit’s best opportunity to get a win and the price should be right, with the Major League Baseball odds likely to have the Tigers as a small favorite.

Sunday’s Game

Joe Musgrove is expected to start for the Padres in the series finale. The Padres vs Tigers betting odds will have Musgrove as a mid-sized favorite. He’s quietly become the ace for the Padres’ pitching staff this season. Musgrove is 9-2 with a 3.16 ERA. The Padres are 10-5 when he starts and have won six of his last seven trips to the mound. San Diego has scored 11 runs total in his five losses.

The Tigers haven’t named their starting pitcher for this game. Tarik Skubal has followed Manning in the rotation the last two times, but Skubal is slated to be the starter in Monday’s make-up game with San Francisco. The Tigers are taking it easy with Skubal and you can’t blame them.

As long as the line is reasonable in this one, the Padres should be the right side. Musgrove is pitching well and the San Diego offense gives a little more confidence than Detroit’s.
