Phillies Should Stay Hot on Road vs Rockies

Phillies vs Rockies Odds Heavily Favor Visitors in Weekend Series

The Philadelphia Phillies hit the road looking to continue their hot play, as they face the host Colorado Rockies for a three-game series beginning on Friday. Philadelphia has been the hottest team in baseball and has become one of the MLB best bets for a win any day it plays.

The Phillies (37-14) have won six straight and have the best record in baseball. Philadelphia is atop the NL East standings, leading the second-place Atlanta Braves by six games heading into the weekend.

The Rockies have been struggling to get a win over the last week, going 1-5 after putting together a seven-game winning streak earlier in May. Colorado (16-33) is at the bottom of the NL West, trailing the fourth-place Arizona Diamondbacks by 7.5 games.

Pitching Matchups

Game 1: Cristopher Sanchez (Philadelphia) vs Ty Blach (Colorado)

The Phillies will send left-hander Cristopher Sanchez to the mound for his 10th start of the season in the opener. Sanchez is 2-3 with a 3.31 ERA, striking out 47 in 49 innings of work. He took a no-decision in his last outing, going seven innings against the Washington Nationals and allowing two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in an extra-inning Phillies victory on Saturday.

The Colorado Rockies schedule today has lefty Ty Blach making his fourth start among seven appearances this season. Blach is 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA and is coming off an ugly outing last weekend. Facing the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, the 33-year-old went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, including a home run, to raise his ERA from its previous 3.00 to what it is now.

Game 2: Aaron Nola (Philadelphia) vs Dakota Hudson (Colorado)

Righty Aaron Nola will be on the mound for the Phillies on Saturday, bringing a 6-2 record and 3.05 ERA. Nola has 60 strikeouts in 65 innings this season. Nola went seven innings against the Nationals in his last start on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits, both home runs, while striking out five and walking three.

Colorado will counter with right-hander Dakota Hudson, who has a 1-7 record and 5.89 ERA. Hudson has made nine starts this season, striking out 26 and walking 27 in 44.1 innings. He took the loss on Sunday against San Francisco, going 4.2 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out three and walking two.

Game 3: Ranger Suarez (Philadelphia) vs Cal Quantrill (Colorado)

One of the MLB best players this season for Philadelphia has been left-hander Ranger Suarez, who makes his 11th start in the series finale on Sunday. Suarez is 9-0 with a 1.36 ERA, becoming the first pitcher to start 9-0 with a sub-1.50 ERA through 10 starts since Juan Marichal did it for the Giants in 1966. The 28-year-old is coming off a brilliant performance against Texas on Tuesday, going seven innings and allowing one run on five hits while striking out 10 and walking two.

The Rockies will give the ball to righty Cal Quantrill for Sunday’s contest. Quantrill is 3-3 with a 3.59 ERA, striking out 44 over 57.2 innings. Quantrill has been very good in May, going 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA in four starts in the month. He took a no-decision in his last start, lasting six innings against the Oakland Athletics and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Phillies’ Offense Hard To Shut Down

Philadelphia’s ascent to the top record in baseball has been powered by both a dominating pitching staff and an explosive offense. The Phillies enter Friday’s action with the most runs in baseball (277), scoring 15 more than the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers. Philadelphia also has the second-best team batting average in the majors at .260. Colorado has struggled at the plate some this season, ranking 22nd in baseball in runs despite playing half its games at Coors Field.

Third baseman Alec Bohm has been the best of the Phillies’ hitters, though he had his eight-game hit streak ended with an 0-for-4 game on Thursday. Bohm had nine RBI over his previous three games and is ninth in baseball with a .323 batting average. His 46 RBI rank second in the majors, and he also has 20 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 24 runs scored.

Colorado’s power hitter is third baseman Ryan McMahon, who leads the team with nine home runs and 30 RBI. McMahon is batting .298, though he’s also coming off a hitless game on Thursday, going 0-for-5. Despite that, he extended his RBI streak to four games and he’s scored a run in eight straight contests. McMahon also has 10 doubles and 25 runs scored this season.

Phillies Add To Win Streak With Sweep

The Phillies vs Rockies odds heavily favor Philadelphia in this series, and with good reason. The Phillies are hitting on all cylinders in almost every phase of the game right now, with the team’s confidence sky high.

Colorado will score some runs in this series, but it will have trouble keeping Philadelphia off the board. Do your MLB betting on the visiting Phillies to continue their dominant play and sweep this series.
