Phillies Sweep Pair of Games in New York

Mets vs Phillies Preview: Teams Head to Philadelphia

The New York Mets visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a brief two-game series. The Phillies swept two games in New York and now play two in Philadelphia. The Mets are just a few games out in the wild card race, while the Phillies have the best record in MLB. The Mets are expected to give Joey Lucchesi his first start of the season. The Phillies will go with Ranger Suarez. The Mets vs Phillies preview shows Philadelphia is -198 and the total on the game is 7.5-under (-112).

The Mets’ typical problems were evident against the Phillies. New York scored just four runs in the two games and you’re not going to win many games with such a lackluster offense. The New York bullpen gave away Monday’s game, taking a 4-2 lead into the ninth and losing the game. Sean Manaea pitched well, allowing one run in six innings, but the New York bullpen wasn’t up to the task.

The Phillies did enough to win the opener and rode the arm of Aaron Nola on Tuesday. Philadelphia didn’t score a whole lot, averaging 4.5 runs per game in the two games, but that’s all they needed to do. Philadelphia’s fast start is a slight surprise. The Phillies are now No. 4 in the World Series odds.

Wednesday’s Game

Adrian Houser was slated to start Wednesday for the Mets, but they had him warming up in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s game. Even though he didn’t pitch, he threw enough for the Mets to scratch him Wednesday. Lucchesi was solid for the Mets last season and has pitched well in the minor leagues this year. His lifetime numbers are pretty average, going 23-24 with a 4.07 ERA. There are plenty of worse pitchers than Lucchesi starting regularly.

Suarez has some of the best stats among MLB starting pitchers this season. He’s 7-0 with a 1.50 ERA and the Phillies have won all eight games he’s started. His numbers are solid both home and away. The Phillies have allowed just more than three runs in one game Suarez started. So the MLB betting odds on the total make sense here.

The Mets vs Phillies preview has the Phillies winning the game, but it’s not likely to be a blowout. The line is a little bit lower than expected, so there isn’t much value there on the Mets. New York’s bullpen has been used quite a bit lately, so it needs a good six or seven innings out of Lucchesi. If you have to play the game, the under is probably the way to go.

Thursday’s Game

The Mets vs Phillies preview shows Jose Quintana and Taijuan Walker as the scheduled starters on Thursday. Neither is off to the best of starts, with Quintana going 1-4 with a 5.44 ERA. Walker is 3-0, but sporting a 4.82 ERA. The Phillies are going to be favored. It’s just a matter of how much.

Quintana has been hit pretty hard on the road in a couple of games, so his away ERA is 8.19. That makes it impossible to bet on him here, especially since the Phillies statistics ar better against left-handed starters.

The Mets have won all three games Walker has started. He’s had one good outing and one poor game, with one average start. He has had a knack for winning the last few seasons, even when he hasn’t been at his best.

The line here should be fairly steep, so those liking the Mets could look to the run line.
