Phillies Confident at Home Despite Blowing Game Two Lead

Continuing our Phillies vs Padres game preview, the question is, are we going to ride the Phillies who have produced 460 units (Ranked #1) of profit this postseason, or are the Padres (+422 units, #2) a sharper wager?

San Diego paid a lot of money to score runs and those moves have paid off in the postseason. Game two was an example of what the Padres thought they would be, but it’s been a ride full of inconsistencies in August and September.

With a line-up with Juan Soto in the second spot followed by Manny Machado and Josh Bell hitting sixth, scoring runs was never supposed to be a problem and it wasn’t in game two. Soto, Machado, and Bell finished game two 7-11 with two bombs. Bell’s second homer of the postseason in the second inning gave the Padres the boost they needed after giving up four runs in the top of the frame.

A Phillies 4-0 lead heading to the third would have likely resulted in Philadelphia taking a commanding 2-0 lead heading home. Ron Thompson’s team knows they let one slip, they also know that they get to go home to a home-field advantage that is unmatched when the faithful get lathered up.

Musgrove Terrific for Padres, Shiny Ears and All!

You can blame New York Mets manager Buck Showalter after asking the umpire crew to check Joe Musgrove for a foreign substance because his ears had a noticeable shine in game three of the NLWC. There was no substance of mass destruction found but Musgrove did go on to destroy the Mets’ hopes of winning a World Series behind a 1-hit seven-inning performance.

The California native then mowed down the Dodgers in game four of the NLDS. Over 13 postseason innings, Musgrove has allowed just two earned runs in 13 innings. This is the first season where Musgrove has turned a profit for bettors with a team record of 21-12 when Moose gets the ball (+364 units). His mound opponent has been even better in the regular season over the course of his three-year career (26-18, +583 units) but it’s fair to wonder if he’s comfortable on this stage after a five walk, 3 ⅓ inning outing against the Atlanta Braves in game one of the NLDS.

Betting Public Jumped On Padres Quick

The consensus opening number on this game opened at -110 each way but professional money poured in on the Padres and Musgrove, pushing the Padres to a -108 road favorite. That confidence was met with Phillies money that wasn’t going to bet them straight-up but took the run-line (+1.5, -182). We expect this number to hold steady up until game time.

To conclude our Phillies vs Padres game preview, we’re officially going to suggest Philadelphia +1.5 (-180). If your bankroll dictates that you’re not in a position to be playing anyone at -180, our second suggestion is to ride out an under streak that has seen winning tickets in 12 of their last 17 head-to-head meetings. There are many lines and odds that bettors look at during the MLB playoffs, however, odds to win World Series is one that should be considered by every sharp player.
