Player of the Week Teoscar Hernandez On a Torrid Pace
Teoscar Hernandez's Stats Have Him Among the Top Power Hitters in the National League

Hernandez On a Home Run Tear for the National League-West Leading Dodgers
Even with Juan Soto of the New York Yankees sidelined for the huge series between World Series contenders, there was plenty of star power on the field when the Yankees welcomed the Dodgers to Yankee Stadium for a weekend series.
When looking at Teoscar Hernandez’s stats, nobody swung a hotter bat than the 31-year-old outfielder as the Dodgers won two of the three games.
Hernandez doesn’t receive as much attention as teammates and former Most Valuable Players Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani but he is a key part of the success of the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers as he is thriving in his first season playing in the National League.

Hernandez Dialing Long Distance
Hernandez had gone 10 games without a home run before connecting with a homer in an 11-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on the eve of the Yankees series.
That was a sign of things to come.
After having two hits and delivering the go-ahead two-run double in the 11th inning in the 2-1 victory in the series opener against the Yankees, Hernandez went 4-for-8 with three runs, three home runs, and seven RBIs.
For those scoring at home, Teoscar Hernandez’s stats were a .500 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.333 in the three games.
“I like to be in the spotlight, the pressure, those big situations,” Hernandez told the media after having two home runs and six RBIs in an 11-3 win over the Yankees on Saturday. “That’s what we play for.”
A day off on Monday did little to cool him off as Hernandez also homered in the series opener against reigning World Series champion Texas on Tuesday.
Money Well Spent
Just five years ago, Hernandez had a salary of $578,600 as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. As he began to send balls out of parks, he earned more than $10 million in his final season with the Blue Jays.
That went to $14M last season with the Seattle Mariners, and in the offseason, the Dodgers signed Hernandez for $23,500,000.
Hernandez joins Freddie Freeman as the only Dodgers to appear in all 68 games so far this season and with the way he is swinging the bat, he doesn’t figure to be coming out of the lineup anytime soon.
At his current pace, Hernandez would finish the 2024 season with 33 doubles, 95 runs, 41 home runs, and 119 RBIs.
The current career-highs for Hernandez are 92 runs in 2021, 35 doubles in 2022, 32 home runs in 2021, and 116 RBIs in 2021.
In his nine MLB seasons, Teoscar Hernandez’s stats show him batting .261 with 176 home runs and 523 RBIs.
A Look At The Numbers
The Dodgers lineup features Betts and Ohtani, who are currently running first and second in the odds to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award. Freddie Freeman is also in the top 10 in the MVP odds.
Hernandez is well back at +8000 in the odds to win his first MVP award. However, with more series like the one he just had against the Yankees, that could change.
A quick peek at the MLB stats indicates that Hernandez is second among National League players with 17 home runs, third with 50 RBIs, fourth with a .525 slugging percentage, and eighth with an OPS of .861. When looking at Teoscar Hernandez’s stats, the most impressive number to look at is the slugging percentage which is .525 both at home and on the road. Fourteen of the home runs for Hernandez came in wins for the Dodgers.
He is a major reason why Los Angeles has a 7.5-game lead in the 2024 MLB standings on the San Diego Padres in the National League West and head into Tuesday’s action as the only National League team with at least 20 wins both at home and on the road.
The Dodgers are third in the majors with 91 home runs and second with a .441 slugging percentage. Those numbers could improve since Los Angeles plays 17 of its next 20 games against teams with losing records. That includes series with the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, and the Los Angeles Angels. Those are three of the five MLB teams currently with winning percentages under .400.
