Giants Getting Off on Wrong Foot

The Giants have gone 15 games in a row without a starting pitcher picking up a win.

The last time a starter got the win for San Francisco was on May 19 when Jordan Hicks allowed three hits and one run in five innings. Four reliefs combined to toss four hitless innings in a 4-1 win over Colorado.

Since that time, San Francisco’s starters are 0-4 with a 4.80 ERA. There have also been five unearned runs scored against the starting pitchers in those 15 MLB games.

The starting pitchers for the final two games of the series have yet to be announced so that could factor into the Giants vs Rangers run line odds this weekend.

With the struggles of the starting pitchers, it is not a surprise that five of San Francisco’s last six games went over the total.

Are Rangers’ Bats Waking Up

Most of the focus in the most recent game for the Texas Rangers was understandably focused on starting pitcher Jose Urena retiring the first 15 batters.

Another encouraging sign was seeing the Rangers put up multiple runs in three different innings. The nine runs scored in the win over the Detroit Tigers when the most in a home game since April 5.

Jonah Heim and Josh Smith each had three hits and drove in two runs. Will that carry over in the Giants vs Rangers run line odds in this series?

The game went over the 8.5-run total when Marcus Semien scored on an error in the eighth inning. Just two of the previous 14 home games for the Rangers landed over the total.

Five of the last six games for the Rangers against National League teams went under the total.

Who’s Hot

  • Michael Lorenzen, Texas Rangers P: Lorenzen has allowed 13 hits and three runs with 21 strikeouts 25.2 innings over his last four starts.
  • Erik Miller, San Francisco Giants P: Miller has allowed three hits and no runs with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings in his last four outings.
  • Heliot Ramos, San Francisco Giants OF: Ramos is 7-for-17 with three home runs, five runs, six RBIs, and six walks over his last five games.
  • Josh Smith, Texas Rangers 3B: Smith is 13-for-39 with three doubles, two home runs, and seven runs scored in his last nine games.

Who’s Not

  • Adolis Garcia, Texas Rangers OF: Garcia is 3-for-34 with 10 strikeouts in his last nine games.
  • Luke Jackson, San Francisco Giants P: Jackson surrendered four hits, four runs, and walked two while recording just two outs in his last appearance.
  • Luis Matos, San Francisco Giants OF: Matos has two hits (both singles) and five strikeouts in his last 22 at-bats.
  • Jesus Tinoco, Texas Rangers P: Tinoco has given up nine hits and six runs in 6.2 innings in his last five appearances.

Giants vs Rangers Injury Update

Keep an eye on the availability of Rangers shortstop Corey Seager in this series.

The Rangers are already without pitchers Cody Bradford, Brock Burke, Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, Josh Sborz, infielders Josh Jung and Justin Foscue, and outfielder Evan Carter. Jung did work out with the Rangers this week so he could be nearing a return.

Pitchers Alex Cobb, Blake Snell, and Keaton Winn join infielders Nick Ahmed and Marco Luciano, outfielder LaMonte Wade, and catcher Tom Murphy on the MLB injured list.

Giants vs Rangers Betting Preview

It might be a tough go for the hitters in the series opener as both Logan Webb and Michael Lorenzen have ERAs under 3.00 this MLB season.

The Rangers are 19-17 as the favorite. However, the Rangers have covered against the run line in just 10 of 25 home games. The Giants have covered in 13 of the 21 games this season as the road underdog.

When looking at the MLB scores and odds, just 10 of San Francisco’s first 32 road games have landed under the total. The total is currently at 8 for Friday’s matchup.

There is no rain in the forecast for the series opener but temperatures could be approaching 90 degrees by the time of the first pitch.

Nine of the last 11 road games for the Giants went over the total. That trend could continue in this series.
