Red Sox vs Guardians Odds: Bieber Tries To Bounce Back From Worst Outing of the Season

Red Sox Look To Reach .500 Mark on the Road During Tuesday's Series Opener

Will the Guardians Set Former Ace Pitcher Corey Kluber in Series Opener?

Two teams heading in different directions are getting together for the series opener. Boston took a two-game losing streak into Monday’s matchup with American League East-leading Tampa Bay. Cleveland has won its last two games, and the odds of the Red Sox vs Guardians favor host Cleveland at -118 versus +108 for Boston.

Cleveland is just 12-15 at home this season, with Boston having a chance to reach the .500 mark on the road with a victory.

James Paxton allowed four hits and one run with eight strikeouts in five innings in his last start. The last time he faced Cleveland was during the 2019 season when he surrendered six hits and four runs in five innings as he picked up the win in a 6-5 victory.

Shane Bieber is expected to start for the Guardians. The last time out, he allowed eight hits and a season-high seven runs in four innings. One of his four wins this season came against Boston when he gave up five hits and two runs in seven innings in a 5-2 win on Apr. 28.

Boston is in last place in the American League East Division, while Cleveland is fighting it out with Detroit for second place in the AL Central.

Before the MLB schedule has the Red Sox playing the rival New York Yankees six times in nine games, there is this three-game set in Cleveland.

According to the MLB playoff odds, Cleveland’s odds to win the World Series moved from +2200 to +6000 since the season started. Boston’s championship odds of +6500 have stayed the same since the beginning of the 2023 season.

Not Bad For Starters

Signing Masataka Yoshida was one of the best moves made by the Red Sox in the offseason.

The 29-year-old outfielder from Fukui, Japan, was one of the top hitters in the majors in May with a .354 batting average, 12 extra-base hits, 15 runs, and 15 RBIs.

His splits between home and road games are almost identical, with a .315 batting average and .397 on-base percentage at Fenway Park heading into Monday’s game against Tampa Bay. His road numbers are a .322 average and a .394 on-base percentage.

Going into Monday’s game, three of Boston’s last eight games finished over the total, and that is something to consider when looking at the Red Sox vs Guardians odds.

Brennan Delivering For Cleveland

Will Brennan displayed some potential in 2022 when he hit .357 in 11 games. He has hits in each of his last six games. Brennan is 11-for-21 with two doubles, one home run, and four RBIs.

Cleveland is 4-4 when Brennan has at least two hits this season.

In two previous games against Boston this season, he was 1-for-5. His lone hit was a home run.

Each of Cleveland’s last three games finished under the total, as just 10 runs were scored in a three-game series against Minnesota. That strong pitching effort could play a role in the Red Sox vs Guardians odds.

Who’s Hot

  • James Karinchak, Cleveland Guardians P: Karinchak hasn’t allowed a run in his seven games, as he has allowed one hit and struck out eight in six innings of work.
  • Reese McGuire, Boston Red Sox C: During a recent three-game stretch, McGuire was 3-for-8, with all three hits being doubles.
  • Josh Naylor, Cleveland Guardians 1B: Naylor is hitting .500 with four doubles, a home run, and nine RBIs during a six-game hitting streak.
  • Nick Pivetta, Boston Red Sox P: From May 28-June 1, Pivetta allowed two hits and no runs with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Who’s Not

  • Shane Bieber, Cleveland Guardians P: In Bieber’s last four starts, he has surrendered 32 hits, four home runs, and 17 runs in 23.1 innings.
  • Tristan Casas, Boston Red Sox 1B: Casas was held without a hit four times in a five-game stretch. He did walk four times over three games.
  • Corey Kluber, Boston Red Sox P: The former Cleveland ace has allowed more hits than innings pitched four times in five games during a recent stretch.
  • Amed Rosario, Cleveland Guardians IF: Rosario is hitless in eight at-bats over the last three games.

Red Sox vs Guardians Injury Update

Boston is expected to get outfielder Adam Duvall back by the end of the week. Duvall had 10 extra-base hits in his first eight games, but he hasn’t played since April due to a fractured wrist. Infielders Christian Arroyo and Yu Chang could also return in June, as could relief pitcher Wyatt Mills.

For Cleveland, first baseman Josh Bell is on the paternity list, so check on his status before making any MLB picks on the game.

Red Sox vs Guardians Betting Preview

When Paxton and Bieber are on, it can be a tough night at the office for opposing hitters. Will they have their best stuff on Tuesday?

Boston has won seven of the last 10 games against Cleveland, including three wins in Cleveland. Six of the previous 12 games between the teams have been decided by either one or two runs.

Boston has covered 15 of 27 road games compared to a 10-17 record against the spread at home for Cleveland.

Just seven of Cleveland’s first 27 games at home finished over the total.

The Guardians are just 9-12 when facing a left-handed starting pitcher. However, that hasn’t stopped the oddsmakers from making Cleveland the -118 favorite for this contest. The total sits at eight juiced to the over at -120.
