Rockies vs Padres Best Bets: San Diego Will Be Big Favorites
Padres Gaining Ground on Dodgers

The San Diego Padres will look to continue their winning ways when they host the Colorado Rockies for three games beginning Friday. The Padres have gone 9-1 over their last 10 games to pull within 4.5 games of the Dodgers in the NL West.
The Rockies are struggling and have the worst record in run differential in the NL. They’re 15-41 on the road this season and heading towards 100 losses. The Rockies vs Padres best bets show Austin Gomber and Randy Vasquez as the scheduled starters in Friday’s game. San Diego is -180 on the early line and the total on the game has moved to 8.
Colorado’s hitting isn’t all that bad. The team is No. 14 in team batting average and No. 15 in home runs. The Rockies are scoring 4.2 runs per game and 3.7 runs per game on the road.

The biggest culprit in the Rockies’ dismal season is the pitching staff, which ranks dead last in team ERA. Colorado has 22 saves in 42 attempts and the bullpen is also last in bullpen ERA. You can’t blame playing at Coors Field as the problem for the pitching woes. The Rockies actually have a better ERA at home.
San Diego is averaging 4.6 runs per game and 4.5 runs at home, so they’re consistent. The Padres are No. 1 in MLB in team batting average and No. 11 in home runs. If anything, San Diego should be scoring at a slightly higher clip. The MLB current scores show the Padres are averaging 4.9 runs per game since June 1.
The pitching staff is pretty average and is No. 17 in team ERA. San Diego relief pitchers have converted 25 of 40 saves. The bullpen is also No. 17 in team ERA.

Friday’s Game
Gomber isn’t having the best of seasons with the Rockies this year. He’s 2-7 with a 4.79 ERA and Colorado is 8-12 when he takes the mound. Colorado is just 3-8 when Gomber starts on the road, scoring 3.8 runs and allowing 5.6. The Rockies are 6-5 in totals.
Vasquez is 3-6 on the season with a 4.82 ERA. San Diego is 6-9 when he starts and 9-6 in totals. The Padres are 3-4 when Vasquez starts at home and have gone 4-3 in totals in those games.
The Rockies vs Padres best bets will be on the over in Friday’s game. The line moved from 7.5 to 8 and it’s hard to argue against that. Neither pitcher is throwing well and San Diego is scoring at a decent clip. Getting much offense out of Colorado will be a bonus here, as the Padres hitters will probably have to do most of the heavy lifting in the MLB game today.
Saturday’s Game
Colorado hasn’t officially listed a starting pitcher for this game. ESPN is reporting Noah Davis, who has three relief appearances this season after being primarily a starter last season. He can strike out some batters but is allowing too many hits, which was his problem in a short stay with the Rockies last season.
The Padres will start left-hander Martin Perez, who struggled with Pittsburgh this season. The fact that Pittsburgh would trade a starting pitcher while fighting for a wild card berth lets you know what the team thought of Perez. Pittsburgh was 6-10 when Perez started and his ERA was 5.20. One of his better outings of the year came in his last start with Pittsburgh with six scoreless innings against St. Louis.
Colorado hits left-handers a little better than they do right-handed starters. The Rockies are just 4-12 on the road against southpaws, but 11-5 in totals. The way to play this one is likely gong to be the over and you can also make a few MLB props plays on the offensive players in the game.
Sunday’s Game
Now, it’s San Diego’s turn to not list its starting pitcher. The Rockies have Cal Quantrill slated to make the start for the visitors. He’s 7-7 with a 4.50 ERA, which is actually pretty good considering the team behind him. The Rockies are 11-11 when he starts, meaning the team is 29-59 when anybody else starts.
Michael King is the logical starter for the Padres here. He last pitched July 27 and is having a pretty solid season for San Diego, going 9-6 with a 3.26 ERA. San Diego is 13-8 when King starts on the season.
If the game is Quantrill vs King, the Padres will be massive favorites. Quantrill has pitched better at home this season and all of the numbers point to the Padres. If you use this game for your Rockies vs Padres best bets, you almost have to take San Diego on the run line to lower the odds to a more manageable number.
