The Mets Must Save Embarrassment In Colorado
Mets vs Rockies Series Preview: It's Go Time For New York

The New York Mets salvaged an ugly weekend with a win over the St. Louis Cardinals last night.
New York is amidst a 10-game road trip without any breaks. But to begin that road trip, the Mets lost two of three to the Los Angeles Angels. That wasn’t what the Mets wanted to do.
However, the Mets salvaged that brutal weekend with a win over the Cardinals on the road in a makeup game from a postponement earlier in the year.

Therefore, the Mets are now 2-2 on the road trip and will head to Colorado for a three-game series.
The Mets will be looking to win No. 60, while the Rockies are already looking forward to next season. Colorado is 41-72 on the season and far from a playoff spot. The MLB records between these two teams are very different.
New York would love to save embarrassment on the road and at least earn a series win against another low-tier opponent.
- The Mets are currently -156 on the moneyline, and the total for tonight’s game is 11.5, with the under juiced to -122.
Remember, this series will be played in Coors Field, Colorado. The higher altitude helps balls fly out of the park, so the total is higher than in your usual baseball game.

Pete Alonso Dropped Out Of Cleanup Spot
The New York Mets are struggling to find answers for Pete Alonso’s struggles at the plate. He’s hitting below .200 with runners in scoring position and isn’t even on pace to hit 40 home runs.
The Mets haven’t enjoyed his inconsistency, but this equally stinks for Alonso, who is playing for a new contract this offseason.
Therefore, the Mets decided to bat Alonso 5th in the lineup for the first time this baseball season. It was the first time he had been 5th in the lineup in four years. While the Mets found success in yesterday’s game, it wasn’t because of Alonso.
We’ll see what the Mets do with Alonso in this series against Colorado.
Colorado Doesn’t Like Making Moves
The Rockies have a hard time moving on from MLB players. They’ve got a bunch of valuable veterans that could’ve been moved at the MLB Trade Deadline. Instead, they were pretty silent during the deadline despite being above 30 games below .500.
This is what losing organizations do.

- Tuesday, 8:40 pm ET
- Luis Severino vs Kyle Freeland
The New York Mets will begin the three-game road series against the Rockies with Luis Severino on the mound. Severino has held his last 91 batters to a .103 ISO. However, he’s only struck out 20.9% of batters and has walked 11%.
Because of that, Severino’s wOBA has increased to .320 over the last 30 days. Still, Severino has earned nearly 46% of grounders and has limited fly balls to 25.4%. If he can limit walks and earn higher strikeouts, he’ll find more success.
Tonight, he’ll face a Rockies projected lineup that has struck out 27.2% of the time. Colorado still has plenty of power in the lineup, but if Severino can find his strikeout stuff, he’ll have a solid outing, even in Coors Field.
On the flip side, the Rockies will roll with Kyle Freeland. Freeland is a left-handed pitcher who has allowed a .269 ISO and wOBA of .370 to his last 97 batters. Freeland has really struggled with high walks to lefties, but only Brandon Nimmo will be a lefty in New York’s lineup tonight.
Freeland has still allowed 58.7% of hard contact to righties over the last month, and the Mets have plenty of guys who will work the count and likely force Freeland out of the game after five innings.
Consider backing the Mets in Game 1 with these MLB 2024 odds.

- Wednesday, 8:40 pm ET
- Paul Blackburn vs Ryan Feltner
After Kodei Senga got injured for the second time this season, the Mets decided on Paul Blackburn during the MLB Trade Deadline to be the fifth starter. Blackburn is a righty who has allowed a .175 ISO and wOBA of .350 to his last 44 batters. However, he’s been way worse against righties, giving up a .200 ISO and wOBA of .368 with only 12.5% of strikeouts.
Colorado has a bunch of talented righties who are hitting a .207 ISO and wOBA of .345 against righties over the last month.
On the flip side, Ryan Feltner will get the call. He’s a right-handed pitcher who has struggled more against righties over the last month. New York has also been getting plenty of power against righties over the previous month, including Tyrone Taylor, Jose Iglesias, Mark Vientos, and Pete Alonso.
This could be a fun, high-scoring affair. Let’s back the Over. And remember, you’ll find some of the best MLB prop bets today in this game on the offensive side.
âš¾ Game 3 âš¾
- Thursday, 3:10 pm ET
- David Peterson vs Austin Gomber
In Game 3 of this series, it’ll be a battle of lefties. David Peterson has limited opponents to a .123 ISO and has earned 57.4% of ground balls over the last month for the Mets. That should translate well in Coors Field.
For the Rockies, Austin Gomber has watched his last 73 righties faced hit a .371 ISO and wOBA of .413 over the previous month. He’s not putting up nearly as good of numbers as Peterson. The Mets will take this game and win the series to close out this Mets vs Rockies series preview.
