Robert Gasser To The IL

The rookie left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser has been sent to the MLB injured list with an injury below. Manager Pat Murphy said there is concern that this injury could be season-ending, but from his first MRI, everything looked normal.

Gasser is just the next pitcher on the IL for the Brewers. Milwaukee lost Brandon Woodruff for the season due to shoulder surgery. Meanwhile, Wide Miley just had Tommy John surgery, and Jakob Junis has a shoulder impingement and was hit with a batted ball in batting practice.

After that, DL Hall is out with a knee sprain, and Joe Ross has a strained lower back.

Despite this, the Brewers are still one of the MLB’s best teams this year, with MLB World Series odds of +2500.

Kenta Maeda Left Start After Two Pitches

Everyone deals with injuries at a high rate in the MLB. That’s how it goes.

Kenta Maeda left his start with the Tigers on Wednesday after throwing two pitches. He had experienced discomfort on the right side of his abdomen and left the game after.

Either way, Maeda has been the Tigers’ least effective starter up to this point. When updates are released, we’ll see how serious his injury is.

Brewers vs Tigers Betting Odds For Game 1:

ML: Tigers -115, Brewers -105

⚾ Game 1 ⚾

Friday, 6:40 pm ET
Freddy Peralta vs. Reese Olson

This would’ve been Robert Gasser’s turn in the rotation. However, he’ll be unavailable at the moment. Luckily for the Brewers, Milwaukee will use Thursday’s off day to their advantage. With the off day, they can pitch Freddy Peralta on regular rest in this game and worry about a replacement starter later.

Peralta has struck out 32.8% of batters this season. He’s also held opponents to a .140 ISO and wOBA of .278. After pitching behind Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff for a few years, the Milwaukee right-hander has become the team’s ace.

Meanwhile, the projected lineup for the Tigers has only hit a .295 wOBA with 24.4% of strikeouts and 4.9% of walks. Matt Vierling, Gio Urshela, and Jake Rogers are the three bats that have been consistently good against righties. But as a whole, the Tigers have struggled to get on base at a high rate.

They’ll need Reese Olson to keep the score tight in this one. Olson has only earned 20.6% of strikeouts, but he’s still held teams to a .085 ISO and wOBA of .255. That’s resulted in a 2.48 ERA on the season. But he’s also 1-6 with that 2.48 ERA. The Tigers rarely score when he’s on the mound.

Over the last 30 days, the Brewers’ projected lineup has hit a .174 ISO and wOBA of .350 against righties. They’ve also worked more than 9% of walks in the last month. Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz have been the most consistent names over the previous month. Still, William Contreras and Willy Adames have also done very well for the Brewers against right-handed pitching lately.

Back the MLB odds for the Brewers (-105) in Game 1 of this series.

⚾ Game 2 ⚾

Saturday, 4:10 pm ET
Bryse Wilson vs. Casey Mize

In Game 2, it’ll be Bryse Wilson. Wilson is a righty who has allowed a .267 ISO and wOBA of .414 to his first 98 lefties this season. Despite his awful numbers against lefties, he’s still pitching well against righties despite a strikeout rate below 18%.

He’ll face Casey Mize of the Tigers, who has allowed just a .140 ISO to his first 240 batters this year. Mize has been relatively good against both sides of the plate, giving him more of an edge than Wilson has in Game 2. Consider the Detroit betting line for Game 2 of this series.

⚾ Game 3 ⚾

Sunday, 1:40 pm ET
Colin Rea vs. Tarik Skubal

In the finale, Colin Rea will take the hill for Milwaukee. Rea has also struggled against lefties as a right-handed pitcher, allowing a .223 ISO and wOBA of .363 with only 16.8% of walks. Like Wilson, Rea has been able to shut down righties despite a 14.6% strikeout rate against them this season.

The Tigers will pitch Tarik Skubal in a potential rubber matchup. Skubal has a 1.97 ERA and is one of the best pitchers in the ERA.

Oddly enough, for the Brewers, the everyday hitters in the lineup have struggled to hit for power against lefties. However, Jake Bauers, Sal Frelick, Ortiz, Gary Sanchez, and Blake Perkins have added a high ISO and wOBA number against lefties. They’ve still got potential. It’s just that the notable hitters haven’t done well against lefties.

Therefore, we’d grab the Tigers to complete the series win in this Brewers vs Tigers betting preview.
