Twins vs Orioles Betting Preview: AL Contenders’ Pitching Clash

Minnesota Looks to Regain Control of AL Central Race

Baltimore Orioles Looks to Continue to Cook at Home Versus Visiting Twins

Both the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles have cooled off after strong starts with Minnesota falling out of first place in the American League Central Division and Baltimore is having trouble cutting into Tampa Bay’s lead in the American League East Division. When looking at the Twins vs Orioles betting preview, keep in mind that Minnesota is just 11-15 in June and Baltimore is 13-10 during the month. When looking at the MLB wildcard standings, the Orioles are comfortably holding down the top spot in the American League.

There could be some runs scored in Friday’s series opener as probable starting pitchers Pablo Lopez of the Twins and Dean Kremer of the Orioles each having ERAs over 4.00. The Game 2 matchup between 27-year-old Bailey Ober and 26-year old Kyle Bradish could be the best in the three-game series.

Baltimore is nine games over .500 at home this season and Minnesota has just a 17-23 mark on the road. Keep that in mind when making baseball picks.

Baltimore has the third-best winning percentage in the American League. However, the Orioles (+2800) have just the sixth-best odds to win the World Series with the Twins right behind them at +3000.

Looking to Pitch In

There was a time when it looked like Minnesota might have one of the best pitching staffs in the majors with Sonny Gray and Joe Ryan being joined by Lopez and Jhoan Duran around to close out games.

Minnesota was seventh in team ERA in April and fourth in May. However, it has been a different story in June. In the highly anticipated MLB matchup between the Twins vs Orioles, both teams will look to showcase their pitching prowess and regain their early-season dominance.

With Ryan posting a 4.83 ERA and Lopez having a mark of 5.04, Minnesota’s 4.21 ERA in the month is in the middle of the pack. The total has gone under in six of Minnesota’s last seven games. That will certainly play a factor in the Twins vs Orioles betting preview.

No Rookie Jitters for Henderson

Gunnar Henderson came into the MLB season viewed as the front-runner in the American League Rookie of the Year race.

He was hitting just .189 with five extra-base hits through the end of April.

Henderson is starting to show what all the hype is about. He is third among American League rookies with at least 100 at-bats with an OPS mark of .811 and Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers is the only American League rookie with more home runs than Henderson’s 11. He is batting .350 over his 15 games. Keep that in mind when looking at the Twins vs Orioles betting preview.

He is one of the reasons why six of Baltimore’s last eight games ended up going over the total.

Who’s Hot

  • Danny Coulombe, Baltimore Orioles P: Coulombe has allowed two hits and no runs with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings during his last six appearances.
  • Jhoan Duran, Minnesota Twins P: Duran has allowed two hits and no runs with nine strikeouts in eight innings over his last six outings.
  • Royce Lewis, Minnesota Twins 3B: Lewis is hitting .387 with five runs, two home runs and four RBIs in his last eight games.
  • Jordan Westburg, Baltimore Orioles IF: Westburg is 5-for-12 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs in his first three MLB games.

Who’s Not

  • Keegan Akin, Baltimore Orioles P: Akin has surrendered 12 hits and 13 runs in four innings over his last four outings.
  • Kyle Farmer, Minnesota Twins IF: Farmer is 1-for-17 with six strikeouts in his last six games.
  • Sonny Gray, Minnesota Twins P: Gray is 0-1 with a 4.60 ERA over his last three starts after recording a 2.25 ERA in his first 13 appearances.
  • Ryan O’Hearn, Baltimore Orioles 1B: O’Hearn has two hits in his last 16 at-bats and has no extra-base hits in his last six games.

Twins vs Orioles Injury Update

Minnesota infielder Jorge Polanco has been hitting in the batting cage and taking grounders as he looks to return to action. He is joined on the injured list by pitchers Jorge Lopez, Cole Sands, Brock Stewart and Caleb Thielbar.

Catcher Brian McCann has resumed baseball activities as he works his way back from an ankle injury for Baltimore while pitchers Mychal Givens, John Means and Austin Voth remain sidelined.

Twins vs Orioles Betting Preview

Minnesota has been held to two runs or less in four of its last five games and is 4-4 in one-run games in June.

Baltimore has allowed at least 10 runs on four occasions in June. Since Minnesota won 16 games in a row versus the Orioles from 2018-21, Baltimore has won five of the last nine games with each of the last four meetings being decided by one or two runs.

The total has gone under in 14 of the last 20 games between Baltimore and Minnesota.

The MLB teams are a combined 59-29 when listed as the favorite compared to a 27-41 mark as the underdog.

Minnesota has covered in 21 of its first 40 road games.

Odds: Orioles ML (-110/+100), Over/Under (8.5 -106/-114) RL TBD
