Yankees Visit Kansas City in Four-Game Series

Yankees vs Royals Runline Wager Looks Strong

The New York Yankees (46-21) make the trip to Kansas City to open a four-game series with the Royals (39-27) Monday. The Yankees were expected to contend for the MLB AL East title, while Kansas City’s fast start is a minor surprise.

The Yankees just hosted the Dodgers in a series of marquee teams and could be feeling the effects of a minor letdown. Kansas City took two of three games from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. Carlos Rodon and Seth Lugo are the scheduled starters for Monday.

  • The Yankees are -124 and the total is 8.5. The Yankees vs Royals runline has New York -1.5 runs at +130. The Royals +1.5 runs are -150.

The Yankees are No. 7 in team batting average, but No. 2 in home runs. New York is averaging 4.9 runs per game and 5.1 runs when on the road. The Yankees are No. 2 in slugging percentage.

New York is No. 1 in team ERA and the starters and bullpen have both been solid. New York’s relief pitchers have been a little better on the road than at home this season.

The Kansas City Royals are the No. 6 in team batting average, but are tied for No. 13 in home runs. The Royals are averaging 5.0 runs per game and 5.7 runs when at home. The offense has made the most of its opportunities and is a big reason why the Royals MLB playoff chances are looking good. Kansas City is 4.5 games up in the wild card race.

The pitching has been pretty solid for the Royals, who are No. 8 in team ERA. The Kansas City starters have been a little more effective than the relief pitchers, although the bullpen hasn’t been terrible. The Royals have 18 saves and nine blown saves on the season.

âš¾Monday’s Gameâš¾

A pretty solid pitching matchup in this game, with Rodon and Lugo. Rodon is 8-2 on the season with a 2.84 ERA, while Lugo is 9-1 with a 2.24 ERA. Kansas City doesn’t show much difference in scoring against left-handers, so that shouldn’t be a factor here.

The Yankees are 10-3 when Rodon starts and have won his last six starts. Overall, the Yankees are 6-2 when he starts on the road and 5-2-1 in totals when he pitches away from home. Kansas City did rough him up in his lone start against the Royals last season. He allowed eight runs without recording an out.

  • Lugo is having a banner season for the Royals and Kansas City is 9-4 when he starts, but just 3-3 when he starts at home. He’s pitched well home or away this season, but has been a little better on the road. The MLB game predictions like Kansas City, so take Kansas City +114 in this spot.

âš¾Tuesday’s Gameâš¾

Marcus Stroman and Brady Singer are the scheduled starters for Tuesday’s second game. It’s another pretty good pitching matchup. Stroman is having a pretty decent year for New York.

He’s 5-2 on the season with a 3.16 ERA and the Yankees are 9-4 when he starts. New York is 6-0 when Stroman starts on the road this season.

Singer is 4-2 on the season with a 2.76 ERA. Kansas City has won nine of the 12 games he’s started and they’ve gone 6-1 when he pitches at home, so something is going to have to give in this one. With both pitchers throwing better in today’s location, the under makes the most sense for one of your MLB bets today.

âš¾Wednesday’s Gameâš¾

Cody Poteet is expected to make his fourth start of the season for the Yankees. The Royals started Daniel Lynch in this spot last time through the rotation, but after he allowed eight runs, Kansas City is officially undecided. Lynch wasn’t bad in two of his three starts, but the last was pretty ugly.

Poteet has thrown well for the Yankees. He pitched well last time out despite New York coming up on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision to the Dodgers. The Yankees gave him a quick hook after 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

With the Royals undecided on a starter for this game, the Yankees could be worth a look here. Poteet is throwing well and his nerves didn’t get the best of him in his first home game at Yankee Stadium. If the Yankees are favored, taking New York on the Yankees vs Royals runline isn’t the worst of ideas in this spot.

âš¾Thursday’s Gameâš¾

Nestor Cortes and Alec Marsh are the scheduled starters for the series finale. Cortes has been solid at home, but plain bad on the road this season. New York is 4-3 when Cortes starts at home and his ERA is 1.77. The Yankees are 2-5 with Cortes on the road and his ERA is 6.17.

Marsh is 5-3 on the season with a 4.05 ERA. The Royals are 5-1 when he starts at home, even though his home RRA is 4.40. Kansas City is 3-2 when Marsh starts on the road and his ERA is 3.68.

The line will be pretty close to even in this one, depending on what transpires in the first three games. Marsh looks like the better pitcher in today’s location and if Kansas City is favored, they’re worth taking on the Yankees vs Royals runline, as well.
