Yankees vs Dodgers Betting Odds: LA and NY to Meet in Potential World Series Preview

Dodgers (+600) and Yankees (+1000) Boast Strong WS futures odds

Two of baseball’s most historic franchises, the Los Angeles Dodgers (34-23) and New York Yankees (34-24), square off this weekend at Dodger Stadium in a potential World Series preview. Los Angeles currently owns the best record in the National League and will send three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw to the hill to open the three-game set on Friday.

Judge on Record Pace, Again

Reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge has 18 home runs in 46 games, putting him on the same pace as last year’s historic campaign. The Yankees slugger finished 2022 with 62 homers, breaking the AL single-season record held by Yankee great Roger Maris. Judge currently leads the AL in homers and is second in the majors this MLB season, trailing Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (20).

Judge has been especially hot of late, with four homers over his last four games. He’s coming off a strong series against Seattle, in which he went 4-for-10 at the plate.

The Yankees have 87 homers as a team, fourth-most in the majors behind the Rays (103), Dodgers (96) and Braves (92).

Roster Movement

The Yankees could soon be getting healthier. Designed hitter Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring), and relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle (right biceps) all may be activated off the IL by Friday. Keep that in mind as you assess the Yankees vs Dodgers betting odds.

The trio appeared in a rehab game for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday and worked out fully the following day at Yankee Stadium. All three are expected to meet the team in Los Angeles, with a decision on their availability to follow.

Stanton, who went on the IL on April 16 with a left hamstring strain, is hitting .269 with four homers and 11 RBI. He’s expected to exclusively remain at DH for a few weeks, with the Yankees easing him along slowly in the outfield.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo is also expected back after missing the Seattle series with a strained neck.

Maintaining the Odds

Could this weekend be a potential October preview? It’s possible. Los Angeles currently shares the best odds of any team to win the World Series at +600, alongside Houston and Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Yankees aren’t far behind. Tampa Bay is next in line at +650, followed by New York at +1000.

Game 1

Clayton Kershaw vs Luis Severino

Day/Time:

The 35-year-old Kershaw is 6-4 with a 3.32 ERA. He’s eighth in MLB with 10.8 K/9. The strong start has the future Hall of Famer in the conversation for another Cy Young. At +1200, he and Pittsburgh ace Mitch Keller have the third-best odds on the board behind Atlanta‘s Spencer Strider and Arizona’s Zac Gallen.

In two starts since returning from a right lat strain, Severino has allowed three runs (two earned) over 11.1 innings.

Los Angeles is -1.5 (+160) on the run line and a -125 favorite to win outright, with New York priced at +1.5 (-190) and +105. The projected total, per Yankees vs Dodgers betting odds, is Over 8.5 (-105) and Under 8.5 (-115).

Game 2

Michael Grove vs Gerrit Cole

Day/Time:

With a 6-0 record and 2.93 ERA, Cole remains the Yankees’ undisputed ace. He has 79 strikeouts over 73.2 innings, the ninth-most in baseball. At +375, he and Tampa Bay left-hander Shane McClanahan are currently the co-favorites for AL Cy Young.

This will be Grove’s first appearance since April 20. Prior to landing on the IL with a groin strain, the 26-year-old right-hander had pitched to an 8.44 ERA over four starts. He’s yet to throw more than 5.2 innings in any start, and opponents are hitting .313.

Game 3

Bobby Miller vs Domingo German

Day/Time:

Miller, a former first-round pick and the Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect has looked the part since being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He’s won his first two starts, allowing just two runs over 11 total innings.

He’ll oppose German, who recently returned from a 10-game sticky stuff suspension. In his first start back on May 29, German gave up four runs over 6.1 innings in a 10-4 victory over Seattle.
