Yankees vs Rays Series Odds: Baseball Preview

Yankees Not the Powerhouse They Once Were, Ray's Can Narrow the AL East to 3 Games

Yankees vs Rays Series Odds: Tampa’s World Series odds are 24-1, but their current 19-9 run has bettors taking a second look at their chances. The Yankees have dominated the American League East standings for most of 2022, but a recent 18-29 streak has seen their lead go from 15.5 games to just six over Tampa.

Before we dive deeper into our Yankees vs Rays series odds preview let’s look at some of the relevant trends that will help us beat the odds tonight. The strength of the Yankees’ early lead in the standings was built because of their ability to win game one of a series.  In their last 51 games, New York has won the first game 35 times this season. Tampa is 137-66 when their opponents sore two runs or less in their previous game.

Yankees Losing Grip On Division Reign

Believe it or not, the powerful Yankees lineup is having trouble scoring runs. The Bronx Bombers, who have hit 205 homers on the season, have scored two runs or less 15 times after the All-Star break. Part of the reason for their rapid loss of games in the Yankees standings 2022 is due to their inability to beat the weaker teams in the league.

In August against the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels, New York was just 3-4. In the Athletics series, they could have easily walked out with a series win after taking the first two games by a combined score of 16-6. Then they scored just three runs in two games allowing the Athletics (49-83) to split the series.

Aaron Boone’s team is just 1-11 against teams with a .500 record or better. Domingo German will get the ball for New York after allowing one earned run in 6 ⅓ innings against the Mets and then followed that up with a three effort in 7 ⅔ innings, Saturday, in a 3-2 loss to Oakland. German has become a pitcher that bettors can rely on the keep the scores low.

Rays Pitching Rock Solid in August

This weekend series won’t knock the Yankees out of first place no matter what happens, but it could make things a lot closer. Tampa Bay Rays odds to win world series may not be what it opened the season at but they do continue to chip away at a lead that could be down to three by Sunday.

The Rays have six more games against the Bombers, to who they’ve dropped 8 of 13 games this season. In August, Tampa was 18-9, the best in the American League, allowing them to gain 8.5 games in just one month.

As a favorite, Kevin Cash’s team is 54-33 (.621), turning just a $1 profit but giving bettors a solid chance to win every night. Players are happier when Tampa is a home favorite, turning a 370 unit profit on the back of a 36-17 record (.679). In the month of August, the Rays team ERA was 2.85 and 2.36 in their last 18 games.

Bettors on The Rays, Slightly

The Yankees still have a significant lead in the American League East, but early betting patterns indicate that the public thinks they are as even as any two teams on today’s card. 52% of the moneyline tickets and 51% of the money bet show a slight edge to the Rays.

As we conclude our Yankees vs Rays series odds preview, it’s not the moneyline odds that have our attention, it’s the total. The Joes have bet the over slightly but that’s not the way we’re recommending.

The under is 33-15-3 in the Yankee’s last 51 games when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game and 18-7-1 in their last 26 games overall. Rays have a chance to make their World Series odds more attractive over the next two weekends but for tonight we’re going under the 7 (-105).
