Bellator 289 Betting Odds Preview: The Bantamweight Grand Prix Continues

Along With A Championship Rematch

Odds Have Bellator 289’s Main Fights as Tight Matchups

Both Bellator gold and a shot at a million dollars are on the line this Friday night. The Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix continues with a championship rematch serving as a co-headliner. As the Bellator 289 betting odds outline, the main three fights involved with these stakes are competitive bouts. None of the six fighters are favored by more than an implied 62 percent on the betting lines. This should make for some riveting viewing as well as some tricky but rewarding betting.

Fight Information

Stots vs Sabatello

Date & Time & Streaming:
Location: Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT
Broadcast: Showtime, YouTube (Prelims)

Bantamweight Grand Prix Could Go Either Way

The Grand Prix features the final four fighters with Raufeon Stots, the Interim Champion, facing Danny Sabatello in the main event. The Bellator 289 betting odds slightly favor Stots (-150) as the former wrestler has been nearly flawless in his MMA career. His lone loss came over five years ago against a top-five UFC contender. Since then, he’s beaten former champions Juan Archuleta and Magomed Magomedov.

Sabatello, the +125 underdog, also has just one loss and is unbeaten in Bellator. He’s already come through as an underdog by upsetting Brett Johns as a 2-1 dog. Like his opponent, Sabatello wrestled in college. He also trains with the American Top Team, home of the likes of Bellator Middleweight Champion, Johnny Eblen. Even as the underdog per the Stots vs Sabatello odds, few would be surprised if he went on to win the whole tournament.

Speaking of Magomedov, he’s fighting Patchy Mix on the other side of the bracket. Magomedov enters as the -160 favorite though Mix (+130) has experience pulling off upsets as a near 2-1 underdog against Kyoji Horiguchi. Mix’s only loss came to Archuleta in a title fight. Magomedov’s only losses have come against Stots and Petr Yan, the former UFC champion.

Velasquez Looking to Reclaim Title from Carmouche

In the co-main event is the Bellator Flyweight Championship rematch between Liz Carmouche and Juliana Velasquez. This one feels like unfinished business as Carmouche TKO’d Velasquez as a +115 underdog. Many felt that stoppage was premature and the Bellator 289 betting odds agree as it pegs the champ as an even larger underdog now at +150.

The well-traveled Carmouche is as tough as veterans come. She’s also turned the tables on the betting odds a few times with wins over Katlyn Chookagian and Lauren Murphy earlier in her UFC career. Carmouche will once again look to outgrind Velasquez, who will look to keep her at bay to outstrike her. Velasquez (-185) is a Judoka who is coming off her first career loss. She and Carmouche will be more than hungry to win this rematch.

“It’s personal,” Carmouche told MMA Junkie in regards to the results of her last fight with Velasquez. “What should’ve been this wonderful moment that I was working toward for so many years, it kind of lost some of its luster because of the claims and because of her demeanor, behavior and how she carried herself after the fight.”

Prospects Fill Out Card Led by Dalton Rosta

Filling out the rest of Bellator 289 are promising prospects like Dalton Rosta. The unbeaten fighter also comes out of American Top Team and is placed as the second-largest favorite of the fight at -750. Coming off a KO win over Romero Cotton, this is more like a record-padding fight for Rosta. Antony Adams (+500), however, looks to pull off another large upset as he was a +320 underdog when he beat Khalid Murtazaliev last year.

Law was upset by James Gonzalez as an 8-1 favorite this summer. But prior to that, he’s been one of Bellator’s more trustworthy prospects as he’s dominated his first six opponents – five coming by way of a finish

Headlining the prelims is Cody Law as a near 3-1 favorite (-275) against Cris Lencioni (+225). Law was upset by James Gonzalez as an 8-1 favorite this summer. But prior to that, he’s been one of Bellator’s more trustworthy prospects as he’s dominated his first six opponents – five coming by way of a finish.

And then there is Pat Downey as the biggest favorite on the evening per the MMA odds. Priced at 14-1, Downey is a blue-chip grappling prospect facing Christian Echols (+775). Downey is a wrestler who has competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments with a win over the great Gordon Ryan. He’ll look to take Echols down and make short work of him.
