2023 Andy’s Frozen Custard 300: Nemechek favored in round 2 of Xfinity playoffs

Xfinity Series heads to Texas after an exciting finish in Bristol

An exciting playoffs opener in Bristol treated Xfinity Series fans to a close battle, ending with Justin Allgaier taking his first playoff win since 2019 in Phoenix. The win jumped him to second in the Xfinity standings as the grid heads to Fort Worth, Texas, for the second postseason race. Here’s what you need to know about betting on the 2023 Andy’s Frozen Custard 300.

Nemechek, Allgaier the favorites once again

For the second week in a row, championship leader John Hunter Nemechek and Allgaier lead the odds for victory on Saturday.

Nemechek’s +275 for victory this weekend. This makes sense; he’s been one of the best drivers on the Xfinity grid all season. He started out the playoffs with third place in Bristol coming after his win in the regular season finale in Kansas. He’s the hot hand in the Xfinity Series and it isn’t close. No driver can match his form over the last three races.

He’s a great driver in Texas as well. Nemechek won this race in 2021 and finished in the top five in 2018 and 2019. In 2023, he’s had good results at similar tracks like Kansas (win), Las Vegas (sixth), and Charlotte (second). He’ll be near the front once again.

Allgaier (+400) is winless in 25 Xfinity races in Texas so his NASCAR odds are more tied to recent performance. His Bristol win is the second in four races and he took pole position in Kansas. His 2023 results include pole in Kansas, a win in Charlotte, and second place in Las Vegas, all good results in similar to Texas. Nemechek’s the only driver to win consecutive races in 2023 but Allgaier’s form and results give him a great shot at victory again.

Other championship contenders lead next group in odds

For much of the season Nemechek and Austin Hill (+700) led the NASCAR standings in the Xfinity Series. Hill spun out last week after contact with teammate Sheldon Creed on Lap 217. This knocked him down the order and he finished 33rd, his worst result since late March.

This week, he comes to a more comfortable track. He finished in the top five in each of the two Texas Motor Speedway races last year in the Xfinity Series, including second at this event. His Xfinity race results today will likely look different from the results this weekend. He should bounce back and contend for the win.

Cole Custer (+700) took pole position last week and managed a fourth-place finish with a stage 1 win as well. That result means he’s finished in the top seven all but once in the last seven races. He’s third in the playoff standings and just 26 points behind Nemechek. His solid track record in Fort Worth includes a win in this event in 2018 and top-five finishes in 2017 (twice) and 2018. He’ll be in the mix again.

Josh Berry (+800) had late contact with teammate Sam Mayer after a flat right-front tire in Bristol and took both drivers out of contention early on. The 36th-place result is Berry’s worst of the season. He’ll be looking to make it an aberration, not the norm, this week. He’s been solid in limited running at Texas: two top-10 results in three career Xfinity races there. He raced well in similar tracks this year including a sixth-place result in Kansas and fifth in Las Vegas.

Trevor Bayne (+800) returns for his second consecutive Xfinity Series race after a seventh-place result last week in Bristol. He won this event way back in 2011 and has been solid in Texas outside of that result. He could be a surprise winner this week again but more likely will be fighting for position in the top 10 by the chequered flag.

Sleeper picks for the 2023 Andy’s Frozen Custard 300

Brandon Jones (+1600) got taken out in Bristol along with Mayer and Berry in their incident. That result countered his best weekend of the year the week prior in Kansas, where he finished second. That second place, plus a ninth-place result in Charlotte, could be a sign of good pace this weekend. He’s raced well in Texas before, including three top-10 finishes combined in the last three NASCAR seasons.

Sheldon Creed (+2000) managed 11th place after his contact with Hill in Bristol. The Richard Childress Racing driver saw his run of top-eight finishes end with that result but still looks in good form. He’s had good results in Texas in other formulas, including a win in 2020 in the Camping World Truck Series. In this event last year, he finished seventh. In similar tracks this year, he took third (Kansas) and ninth (Las Vegas).

Chandler Smith (+2500) made his way up to fifth by the checkered flag in Bristol last week. It continues his run of being the best rookie in the Xfinity Series this year. He had limited running in Fort Worth in lower levels but did take two top-10 results in Camping World Truck Series racing. This year, he’s had solid results in similar tracks to Texas, including pole position and third in Las Vegas and 13th in Charlotte. He could be a surprise winner again this weekend.

2023 Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 picks

Multiple top drivers have either had good form recently or at Fort Worth historically. It’s hard to pick one from the favorites but Nemechek stands out. He’s the best driver in the series at the moment and has the track record to race well in Texas.

For a better payout, look out for Hill or Creed. The former has been a great racer in Texas and the latter’s done well in other levels there.
