2024 Pennzoil 250 Odds: Daytona, Atlanta Winner Hill Favored

Another High-Speed Oval Sees The Super Speedway Specialist at the Top

It took 19 races but defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer finally made it to victory lane. The most consistent driver in the series won Stage 2, took the lead with nine laps left, and held on for his first win since the 2023 finale in Phoenix.

High-speed tracks continue this week with the Xfinity Series heading to Indianapolis and the 2024 Pennzoil 250 Odds predict a repeat winner this weekend.

2024 Pennzoil 250 Odds: Favorites

  • Austin Hill (+260)

Hill had another seventh-place finish in Pocono, his second in a row and third top-10 result in as many races. He’s fourth in the championship standings but 76 points behind Custer in first.

Thanks to his success at high-speed tracks on the NASCAR Xfinity schedule, he’s the runaway favorite this week. Hill won the first two races of the year in Daytona and Atlanta.

In Talladega, he took pole position and led the most laps en route to 14th by the checkered flag. It’s hard to find anyone on the grid that comes close to that form at those tracks this season. It’d be a surprise if he weren’t at the front again.

  • Cole Custer (+700)

Custer extends his championship lead slightly with that win. He remains the definition of consistency on the grid this season with 15 top-10 results in 19 races.

Unfortunately, two NASCAR Xfinity results outside the top 10 came at high-speed tracks Daytona (13th) and Atlanta (16th). Pocono is more similar to Indianapolis than those with its high speed and flat track characteristics.

That bodes well for him but Custer has never won consecutive races at any level in his NASCAR career. His consistency will be tested this weekend.

  • Justin Allgaier (+700)

Allgaier came home less than a second behind Custer in Pocono after leading the most laps. The JR Motorsports driver remains second in the standings after that effort, though, but 51 points behind Custer.

He is the only Xfinity Series regular to have won a race at the Indianapolis oval with his victory in 2018. He also finished in the top five twice: second in 2019 and fifth in 2016. That track record stands out on an inexperienced grid this weekend. He is a strong candidate for victory because of that track record and his Pocono results.

  • Jesse Love (+750)

The Xfinity Series’ top rookie this season had an off week in Pocono. He started the race in 19th and finished 22nd. That’s just his second finish outside the top 20 in the last seven races.

He could be in for a better result this weekend. Hill won Daytona and Atlanta but Love took pole position and led the most laps in both NASCAR races. Love’s first win came at Talladega, where he started second and won Stage 1.

He’s never raced in Indianapolis in the oval format but his success at Daytona, Atlanta, and Talladega are promising for high-speed tracks.

Sleepers

  • AJ Allmendinger (+1100)

These NASCAR odds barely make Allmendinger a sleeper but he’s a solid choice this weekend. He finished sixth in Pocono after starting 10th. He finished 10th in Daytona, 13th in Atlanta, and 19th in Talladega.

That’s a solid track record at high-speed ovals. He’s won multiple races in Indianapolis, albeit on the road course. He could be in for his first victory of the season this weekend.

  • Sheldon Creed (+1500)

Creed had another good outing in Pocono with his first pole position of the year and fourth place by the checkered flag. He led seven laps as the top finisher for Joe Gibbs Racing.

That performance bodes well for his chances this weekend. That good result in Pocono follows top-five finishes in Daytona (second) and Atlanta (fourth). He also finished sixth in Talladega. It’d be big NASCAR Xfinity news if he won his first race this weekend but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

  • Brandon Jones (+2500)

Jones is back in the sleepers again this week because of a solid race in Pocono that saw him finish 13th. He could surprise this weekend thanks to his track record.

He’s raced Xfinity events on the Indianapolis oval four times from 2016 to 2019 and made the top 10 in every one. Michigan is one of his better tracks in recent years and that is a similarly horsepower-driven oval. It’d be a surprise to see him win but with these odds, it’d be worth a flyer.

2024 Pennzoil 250 Odds: Predictions

Indianapolis returns with its oval layout this year after a run with the road course format. If this year’s Indy 500 is any indicator, it should make for exciting racing for NASCAR this weekend.

Of the favorites for the Xfinity Series this weekend, we like Allgaier (+700). He’s a proven winner at this layout and nearly came home with a win last week. Of the sleepers, we like Creed (+1500). Here are our top five picks:

  • Allgaier (even)
  • Hill (-275)
  • Creed (+200)
  • Custer (even)
  • Allmendinger (+160)
