Denny Hamlin vs Christopher Bell: NASCAR 2024 Cook Out 400 Odds
After Two Weeks Off, Cup Series Returns for Second Race in Richmond
The NASCAR Cup Series’ brief summer break is over and the grid is back in action this week with just four races left until the playoffs start. This week, the Cup Series is back at Richmond Raceway for the second race of the season there following the Toyota Owners 400 in March.

The 2024 Cook Out 400 Odds point to a similar result, though, with Denny Hamlin leading the way.
2024 Cook Out 400 Odds: Favorites
Denny Hamlin (+475)
Hamlin entered the break amid his worst stretch of NASCAR results of the season. He had just one top-five result in the last seven races.
He finished in the top five every time in the five races before that. His second-place finish in Pocono is the only promising result since early June.
Richmond is ideal for him to get his season back on track. He’s won twice in his last five NASCAR races there, including earlier this year.
His track record is impressive going back even further; he’s made the top five in 12 of his last 15 races there. It’d be a big surprise if he didn’t at least make the top five.
Christopher Bell (+475)
Bell’s final stretch before the break was promising. He had an impressive weekend in New Hampshire and, despite finishing 36th, had a strong run in Nashville by winning Stage 1 and 2 and leading the most laps.
He’s never won in Richmond but he’s raced very well in similar tracks this season. He won in New Hampshire and Phoenix, both similar shorter flat tracks.
In Gateway, another similar flat track, Bell led the most laps and won Stage 1 and 2 before finishing seventh. His NASCAR odds this week are short for good reasons and he should be in the mix for his first Richmond victory.
Kyle Larson (+525)
The championship leader entered the break on a high with his win in Indianapolis. Despite missing the Coca-Cola 600, Larson has been the top driver in the series this season.
- He leads the grid in wins (four), points (749), stage points (226), and bonus points (28).
He could be in for another good result in Richmond this weekend because he took pole position and won Stage 1 in the spring race there this year.
His track record at similar tracks is solid, too, with 10th in Gateway and fourth in New Hampshire. He should race well this weekend.

Martin Truex Jr. (+550)
Truex Jr. struggled over the last two months of action. He’s made the top 10 just twice in the last eight races. It’s a far cry from his strong pace during the regular season last year.
But like Hamlin, his track record in Richmond is impressive. He’s won three of the last 10 Cup Series races there and finished outside the top 10 just once in that span: 11th in last year’s spring race.
He led the most laps in the spring race in Richmond this year and won Stage 2 en route to fourth place. Most NASCAR race predictions should include him in the top five again at least.
2024 Cook Out 400 Odds: Sleepers
Joey Logano (+1200)
Logano finished second to Hamlin in the spring race at Richmond and finished fifth in Gateway. Logano has traded good results and bad results over the last two months.
In order, he’s finished fifth (Gateway), 21st (Sonoma), sixth (Iowa), 32nd (New Hampshire), first (Nashville), 23rd (Chicago), fifth (Pocono), and 34th (Indianapolis).
He should be in for a good result if this pattern holds. Logano hasn’t won in Richmond since 2019 but realistically could at least make the top five.
Brad Keselowski (+1600)
- Another week in which Keselowski looks good as a sleeper pick. The 2012 Cup Series champion’s track record this season is very good.Fourth in Phoenix and third in Gateway set him up well for this weekend. He hasn’t won here since 2020 but he already broke his win drought earlier this year in Darlington.
Chris Buescher (+1800)
Buescher has yet to win a race but is currently in a position to make the playoffs. Last season, he rattled off multiple wins at the end of the regular season to secure his playoff spot, including in Richmond.
He could repeat that feat this weekend. Buescher finished ninth in Richmond this spring and had good results in Phoenix (second) and New Hampshire (fifth). His odds provide a great payout considering his form this year.
2024 Cook Out 400 Odds: Predictions
Returning to Richmond makes for another intriguing weekend. Drivers and teams have already been here before and, after a couple weeks off, should be ready for the final stretch to the playoffs.
Of the favorites, we like Bell (+475) to get the win. Of the sleepers, go with Buescher (+1800). Our top five picks are:
- Bell (-145)
- Buescher (+225)
- Truex Jr. (-130)
- Hamlin (-145)
- Logano (+150)
