Hamlin leads the way again in the 2024 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds

Last week's controversial finish in Richmond build pressure for a good race in Michigan.

The Cup Series had one of the more controversial endings of the season last weekend in Richmond. Austin Dillon made it to victory lane for the first time this season after hooking Joey Logano and hitting Denny Hamlin on the final lap.

NASCAR has yet to levy any fines or consequences for Dillon and Richard Childress Racing for their actions at time of publishing. Still, the grid turns to Michigan this weekend, and the 2024 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds point to a close fight for the win.

2024 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds: Favorites

  • Denny Hamlin (+550)

Hamlin was understandably upset for missing out on the win in Michigan because Dillon was specifically instructed to wreck him.

Hamlin led the most laps and qualified on pole. His second-place finish was still a good way to bounce back after the break.

His NASCAR odds this weekend are great again, and he should follow through with a strong result. Michigan and Kansas are relatively similar and Hamlin led the most laps and won Stage 1 en route to fifth place there in May.

He’s made the top 10 in seven of his last 10 races there. He’s a strong contender to right the wrong of Richmond.

  • Kyle Larson (+600)

Larson came home seventh in Richmond to keep his championship lead. He should have a good chance to build that lead this weekend.

His win in Kansas and his dominant performance in Las Vegas – victory, Stage 1 and 2 wins, and most laps led – is a good sign for Michigan.

He won three straight races in Michigan from 2016 through 2017. He’s yet to regain that dominant form but he’s still consistently raced well there.

  • Martin Truex Jr. (+800)

Truex Jr. had another rough weekend in Richmond and ended up classified 37th. That makes it four results outside the top 20 in the last five races. It’s a worrying trend for a driver who won last year’s regular season.

Michigan offers another opportunity to bounce back. Truex Jr.’s never won there but his recent NASCAR results are very good: he’s made the top 10 eight times in his last 10 races.

Last year, he led 47 laps and finished second. He needs to build momentum ahead of the playoffs and this weekend could be it.

  • Ryan Blaney (+800)

Blaney finished 11th in Richmond to keep pace in the top five of the Cup Series standings. With a playoff spot secured, it’s down to remaining consistent ahead of the postseason.

He’s on a hot streak lately with five consecutive top-12 results. He won this race in 2021 and should be a lock for at least the top 10 again.

  • Christopher Bell (+850)

Bell won Stage 1 and finished sixth in Richmond to cut the gap to Blaney for fifth to one point. This track may suit him with how he’s racing this NASCAR season. He took pole position in Kansas en route to sixth.

He also took pole position here last year but led just one lap and finished 13th. A win would be far from surprising.

  • Tyler Reddick (+900)

Reddick continued his hot streak in Richmond last week with third place. He’s now finished at least eighth in nine of the last 10 NASCAR tracks. His deficit is just five points to Larson for the championship lead.

His track record in Michigan is not great. He finished outside the top 15 in his five career races there. He did finish second in Las Vegas which is a good result ahead of this weekend.

But a win seems like a stretch, even for the most consistent driver at the moment in the Cup Series.

Sleepers

  • Chris Buescher (+1400)

Buescher had an okay weekend in Richmond with 18th by the chequered flag. He’s gone four races since his last top-five result but could be in for a better result this weekend.

He raced well in Kansas and finished second after winning Stage 2. He also won this race last year in a late-season push to the playoffs.

The last driver to repeat at Michigan was Kevin Harvick who won the August race three times in a row (2018-2020). Buescher could become the newest driver to do that this weekend.

  • Joey Logano (+1600)

Logano will be driving angry after what happened last weekend in Richmond. Dillon robbed him of the win and Logano subsequently spun up his tires in pit road in frustration.

He could get some poetic justice this weekend. He’s won three races in Michigan in his career, most recently in 2019 from pole position.

His qualifying performances are consistently better than his race results so that’s a good place to start. He also qualified on pole in Las Vegas which helps his case for a payback win on Sunday.

  • Ty Gibbs (+2000)

Gibbs is struggling lately. Since leading the most laps en route to third in Chicago, Gibbs has finished outside the top 20 in the subsequent three races. In Richmond, he finished 22nd.

But Michigan could be a turning point. Last year, he finished 11th in the Cup Series race and fourth in the Xfinity Series race. In 2022, he won the Xfinity race there. It’s a long shot, but it could be worth a significant payout.

2024 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds: Predictions

After last week’s debacle, NASCAR will hope an exciting but clean race in Michigan will take fans’ minds off that result. Of the favorites, we like Larson (+600) to bag another win. Of the sleepers, we like Logano (+1600) to get the win. Here are our top five picks:

  • Larson (-110)
  • Hamlin (even)
  • Truex Jr. (+180)
  • Logano (+180)
  • Buescher (+275)
