76ers vs Hawks Betting Trends: Pace Slows Down in ATL

The Hawks Play Their Second Game in Two Nights

After a bit of a rocky start to the 2022-23 NBA season, the Atlanta Hawks seem to have found their stride in the month of November. They’ve won three of their last four games with wins against the New York Knicks, New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks.

They did, however, lose to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night which means they are coming into Thursday night’s matchup on no rest. The Philadelphia 76ers sit at 5-6 on the season but have dropped two of their last three games. They come into this matchup with the rest advantage having not played since beating the Phoenix Suns by 12 on Monday.

Based on the style of play between these two teams, our 76ers vs Hawks betting trends likes this game to be slow-paced.

The total sits at 222.5 while the Hawks are a 1.5-point favorite. Atlanta also sits at -120 on the Moneyline while a win for the Sixers is at +100.

What Are the Player Stats?

Our 76ers vs Hawks betting trend points to the under in this game for a number of reasons. For starters, while Joel Embiid is one of the NBA stats leaders, the Sixers are still missing a few key players. James Harden remains on the NBA list of injuries for an extended period of time with an injury, which is a huge blow to Philadelphia’s offense.

With Harden in the lineup, the Sixers were ranked 7th in the league in offensive rating. Without him, they’ve dropped significantly and now sit ranked 26th in that same category.

The Sixers defense also makes a great case for a 76ers vs Hawks betting trend that points to the under. With Embiid taking up a ton of space in the lane, opponents aren’t able to get to the basket as easily against the Sixers. In fact, Philadelphia is allowing their opponents just 41 points in the paint per game.

Not to mention, they have some of the league’s best perimeter defenders in Matisse Thybulle, PJ Tucker and De’Anthony Melton. This is an important aspect of this matchup with the Hawks because much of Atlanta’s offense comes from the perimeter with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray in the backcourt.

Teams Scores

Speaking of Dejounte Murray, who the Hawks acquired from the San Antonio Spurs this offseason, he has been a huge addition to Atlanta on both sides of the floor. Murray was San Antonio’s leading scorer and his offense hasn’t taken a hit playing alongside Young. He’s averaging just over 22 points and eight assists per game.

Despite being such an offensive-minded player, where Murray has really made an impact for the Hawks is on the defensive end – something not many people thought would happen. Over the last few seasons, the Hawks defense has been their Achilles heel.

They can score with the best of them but stopping their opponents is something they have struggled with. Atlanta ranks 18th in defensive rating this season, which still isn’t great, but is a big step up from last season. If we compare them over the last two games in which the Sixers defense has also improved, the Hawks rank 10th on the defensive side of the ball.

Atlanta also plays at a pace that ranks in the top 10 in the league while the Sixers pace ranks 29th. Therefore, we can expect the pace of this game to be played somewhere in the middle. Couple that with two strong defenses and a Philadelphia offense that has taken a hit since Harden went down and we’re looking at a lower-scoring game. Take the under 222.5.
