Bob Myers Warriors: The End of a Dynasty

The Bob Myers Warriors Set to Become a Thing of the Past

Myers Parts Ways with Warriors

The Golden State Warriors will have a new President of Basketball Operations and General Manager next season, with Bob Myers deciding to step down from his duties. Let’s look at the Bob Myers Warriors and what it might mean for the franchise’s future.

Myers, who was a two-time Executive of the Year, oversaw four NBA Championships and was considered the foundation of the Warriors dynasty. His relationship with the coaching staff and players was often seen as a focal point in the franchise’s success, but strained relations may be a big part of why he decided to walk away.

The 48-year-old also oversaw the best NBA regular season record in history as his 2015/16 team went 73-9 before falling short of at the final hurdle despite having the shortest NBA odds in recent history during the NBA Finals.

With all that said, no General Manager oversaw more success across the league in the past decade, and before finding out what comes next, a lot will be made about why it came to such an abrupt end.

Did Backroom Disagreements Play A Part?

This season was a whirlwind for a team that clinched their fourth NBA Championship behind the talents of Myers, Steve Kerr, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Green’s role in a pre-season incident with teammate Jordan Poole rocked the locker room, and it seems things never really recovered from that moment. Green’s suspension never appeared to be a consensus decision within the organization, and tensions seemed to grow from there.

Meyers was tasked with trying to run a two-tier timeline as he ushered the final stages of the Curry, Thompson, Green nucleus while empowering the franchise’s future by ensuring Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, and even Andrew Wiggins were groomed for their opportunity.

Whether it was the pressure from executive chairman Joe Lacob that led to his disconnect from his role or strained relationships with the group he helped put together, something about this year’s Golden State Warriors seemed wrong.

This was meant to be the Bob Meyers Warriors, but that’s no longer how it felt.

Where to now?

Myers is unlikely to get involved in basketball at the top level for some time, and there’s a good chance we don’t see him return in any capacity in the NBA.

He oversaw immense success and will ultimately be remembered for just that.

What comes next is a murky reality that the franchise must navigate this offseason. As the core of the team comes to the end of their days in the league, decisions will have to be made on the best direction for the team in both the short and long term.

Regardless of what happens going forward, there’s no denying that the Bob Myers Warriors will always stand tall in the history books.
