Lakers Playing Way into the Field

Winners of three straight, the Lakers are closing in on a spot in the NBA postseason play-in tournament. At 39-32, the Lakers are ninth in the Western Conference, 2.5 games up on Golden State for the final playoff spot.

Los Angeles is coming off a wild 150-145 victory over Indiana on Sunday, which marked the franchise’s highest-scoring performance in 37 years. Lebron James and Anthony Davis combined for 62 points, helping the Lakers cover as 2.5-point favorites. The Lakers also went Over the total for the sixth time in their last eight games.

The Lakers are now ninth in the NBA in scoring (117.7 PPG) and second in efficiency, shooting 50% as a team. Despite attempting the second-fewest 3-pointers per game (30.8), the Lakers are hitting those attempts at a healthy 37.9% clip.

With 11 regular-season games remaining, the Lakers appear destined for the play-in. Regardless of where they end up, the odds are against them advancing far. Oddsmakers list them at +2000 to win the West and +3500 to win the NBA Finals, one of 12 teams with 35/1 title odds or better.

Their fate largely rests on the health of James and Davis, both of whom have logged heavy workloads. Davis has already played in 67 of a possible 71 games and James 62.

Giannis is Still the Star of the Show

With 11 games to go, the Bucks have a firm grasp on the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Bucks (46-25) have won five of their last seven games to open a three-game lead on Cleveland atop the Central Division.

Milwaukee is coming off a 118-93 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday. A 2.5-point favorite, Milwaukee got 30 points and 19 rebounds from Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton’s second career triple-double (11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). It marked the first time since Feb. 3 that the Bucks had Antetokounmpo, Middleton, and Damian Lillard in the NBA lineup together.

Oddsmakers are bullish on the Bucks, pricing them +300 to win the East and +750 to win the NBA Finals. At the moment, only three teams have better title odds: Celtics (+210), Nuggets (+325) and Clippers (+550).

The Bucks now sit third in the NBA in scoring (120.6 PPG) and tied for seventh in field goal rate at 49.2%. Most of the Bucks’ points come from the perimeter where they’re shooting 37.9%. However, they are also potent inside thanks to the 6-foot-11 Antetokounmpo and 7-1 Brook Lopez.

Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.7 points and has been the Bucks’ top scorer in six of their 11 games this month.

Although the Bucks are just 32-39 ATS, they have covered in four of their last five games. Bettors should keep that in mind when analyzing the Lakers vs Bucks betting odds.

Handicapping the Game

After a discombobulated start, the Bucks may be rounding into form at the right time. A big reason is health. Sunday was the first time since Jan. 31 that they were able to use their preferred starting lineup of Antetokounmpo, Lillard, Middleton, Lopez, and Malik Beasley.

Meanwhile, according to NBA injuries, the Lakers will be without some important depth pieces in Christian Wood (knee), Jarred Vanderbilt (foot), and Gabe Vincent (knee).

James did not play against Milwaukee on March 8, a 123-122 victory in Los Angeles. D’Angelo Russell — who is questionable for Tuesday because of an illness — had a team-high 44 points. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo notched a triple-double (34 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists).
