Storm vs Dream Betting Trends

The Seattle Storm are 15-10 against the spread, including 6-5 on the road. As for the Over/Under, their record is 10-14-1.

The Atlanta Dream, meanwhile, are 12-12 ATS, including 5-1 in their last six. As for the Over/Under, they’re 11-13.

It’s important to remember these trends when assessing the Storm vs Dream WNBA betting odds.

No Stormy Skies for Seattle

Seattle rolled into the Olympic break on the shortlist of contenders to win the 2024 WNBA championship. At 17-8, they’re tied with Minnesota for the best record in the Western Conference and trail New York by 4.0 games for the league’s top overall mark.

Oddsmakers are bullish, pricing Seattle’s championship odds at +1000. Only four teams begin the second half as bigger favorites: Las Vegas (+160), New York (+170), Connecticut (+800) and Minnesota (+900).

Seattle has won three straight and four of five, including an 81-70 victory over Atlanta on July 14. Jewell Loyd, the WNBA’s reigning scoring champion, is coming off a 30-point outing against Los Angeles, her fourth this season.

Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith have stepped up in their first year with Seattle to form one of the league’s best Big Threes. The trio has accounted for roughly 60% of the team’s scoring, helping fans quickly forget the struggles of 2023.

Seattle needs to go only 7-8 the rest of the way to surpass its projected win total of 23.5. That seems relatively sure to hit, even if the Storm run into an unexpected roadblock or two. Bettors should keep that in mind when analyzing the Storm vs Dream WNBA betting odds.

Dreaming of Better Days

Oh, how quickly things fall apart. Atlanta is shaping up to be one of the WNBA’s biggest disappointments on the heels of its run to the playoffs in 2023. The Dream are just 7-17, losing eight straight and 11 of their last 12. Projected for 17.5 wins, they’re unlikely to finish anywhere near .500.

Rhyne Howard is chief among the Dream’s issues. An ankle injury limited the two-time All-Star and former Rookie of the Year to only 14 games in the first half. Howard was injured on June 19 and was out until July 17, appearing in only one game prior to the break. Atlanta was just 1-9 in her absence, falling 3.5 games outside the final playoff spot.

Howard appears healthy again, as she helped lead the United States 3×3 women’s team win a bronze medal in Paris. However, there’s a lot of pressure on her to pick up from where she left off and guide the Dream back into the postseason picture. As things stand, they are +600 long shots to qualify.

The Dream’s struggles extend to home, where they are just 3-8. Their last victory at the Gateway Center was on June 16 against Los Angeles, 87-74. They also have the league’s third-worst point differential (-6.0).

Handicapping the Game

Sure, Howard is back. Still, it’s hard to have much trust in Atlanta. The Dream are one of the WNBA’s biggest underachievers. Even without the former No. 1 overall pick, they have enough talented players — Allisha Gray and Tina Charles, to name a few — to perform better.

Seattle is just 1-4 ATS in its last five road games—including failing to cover as a 14-point favorite against the Dream on July 14—though it has a significant advantage over Atlanta. The Storm are 8-2 over their last 10, and they should be relatively fresh coming off the break.

Furthermore, the Storm have demonstrated good balance during their hot streak, with four different players leading them in scoring over the past six.
