Hawks vs 76ers Odds: Atlanta Visits Philadelphia in Potential Shootout
This Post Trade Deadline Game Could Get Lit

Unchanged Hawks Favored Over Desperate 76ers
Despite all the trade talks surrounding Atlanta, the Hawks chose to stay pat. Star guard Dejounte Murray stays with the team though his status for this game is up in the air due to his back injury. Still, Atlanta opens as a four-point favorite per the early Hawks vs 76ers odds. Philadelphia acquired sharpshooter Buddy Hield from Indiana. But the team remains riddled with injuries, which could lead to a total higher than 239.5.

Subpar Hawks Can Score Their Way To Victory
The Hawks are the 10th seed in the East and are seven games below .500. It’s hard to figure out if this NBA team is trying to re-tool or is trying to blow it up again. Either way, they should be good enough to beat the undermanned 76ers, in a potential back-and-forth, as the Hawks vs 76ers odds indicate.
Atlanta is just 8-17 against the spread (ATS) as a visitor. But Philadelphia is 1-7 in its last eight games and is a shell of itself with all its injuries. Reigning MVP Joel Embiid is out for a month while other key players like guard Nicolas Batum and guard De’Anthony Melton are out. Trading for Hield improves the team’s offense but it won’t make up for the lack of ‘D’.
That’s why the total could blow past 239.5 points here. The totals have gone over in six of Atlanta’s last eight games. It scored 126+ points in seven of its last eight games. Only Boston, arguably the NBA’s best team, held it under that. Philadelphia’s defensive rating is an NBA worst 125.5 in the last eight games.
As such, Atlanta winning a high-scoring game could be the conventional NBA pick. The Hawks are just 1-5 ATS in their last six versus Philadelphia. But Embiid is absent and the 76ers will have a tight rotation. Atlanta could outlast Philadelphia, especially with Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey shooting just 35.8% from the floor.
On the flip side, the Hawks could be just the team for Maxey to shake off his slump. Atlanta allows hosts to shoot over 50%. These teams could go over 120 points each.
Philadelphia Adjusts to Life Without Embiid
Maxey and the 76ers are in the midst of their worst stretch since before the team became a playoff contender. Not only is Philadelphia getting destroyed on defense, but the team is also not scoring enough. The 76ers are averaging just 111.5 points these last eight games and on 46.4% shooting.
Maxey, who received significant support for NBA All-Star voting and will play as a reserve, took responsibility for a recent loss to Dallas.
“I think it’s more of me helping them,” said Maxey in regards to how Philadelphia can help him. “I got to give up the ball faster sometimes. It’s kind of our first time going through this, we’re all kind of learning together.”
Indeed, Philadelphia’s NBA odds have lengthened. It is now 20-1 to win the title and 10-1 to make the NBA Finals. With Embiid expected to miss four weeks, Philadelphia is altering how it plays. Adding Hield will, theoretically, space the floor better for Maxey. Since he joined the league, Hield has hit the most 3-pointers outside of Steph Curry.
Philadelphia ranks 27th in the NBA in 3-pointers made. The team is 7-10 when it hits fewer than 10 3s in a game. But even if Hield helps amend this issue, he’s not exactly an All-Star defender. Hield has even been a defensive liability and has not played a season where he finished with a positive defensive plus-minus.
The 76ers’ best hope of upsetting the Hawks vs 76ers odds is to beat Atlanta in its own game: by out-scoring it. We’re bearish on this happening.
