Lynx Favored to Beat Dream Despite Missing Collier

The odds are here and we have some Dream vs Lynx WNBA predictions. The Atlanta Dream are +8.5 on the road against the Minnesota Lynx this Wednesday. The Lynx are -420 to win the game straight up and the Dream are +310 to get the upset. The total is set at 151.5.

The Lynx are likely without their star and MVP candidate Napheesa Collier again on Wednesday which will no doubt affect the results of this one. The Dream are missing their star Rhyne Howard in the matchup as well. 

The Minnesota Lynx are currently second place in the Eastern Conference WNBA standings after losing their last two games and are 16-8. They are fourth overall in the WNBA and have the third shortest odds to win the WNBA championship at +900.

They have been led all season by Napheesa Collier, who averages a double-double with 20 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Without her, the Lynx will have to lean on Alanna Smith (11.4 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Kayla McBride (15.8 points per game) as well as the rest of their roster to fill the large production gap. 

The Atlanta Dream have been having a rough season, with a record of 7-16, they are second to last in the Eastern Conference standings and are ninth out of the twelve teams in the league overall.

They are led in scoring by Allisha Gray (15.9 points per game), rebounding by Tina Charles (8.4 rebounds per game) and assists by Rhyne Howard (3.4 assists per game). Howard is also their second highest scorer at 15.4 points per game. Rhyne is out indefinitely with an ankle injury. 

For our Dream vs Lynx WNBA predictions we are going to look at the WNBA scores, the past matchups between these teams, and the betting trends to make our WNBA picks. 

First Matchup

In their first encounter, the Lynx emerged victorious over the Dream by a score of 92-79. While the first half remained close (47-51 Lynx), a dominant third quarter by Minnesota sealed the deal. The Lynx held Atlanta to a mere 12 points in that period, creating a significant deficit the Dream couldn’t overcome despite a small fourth-quarter comeback. Minnesota covered the +4 spread and the game went over the 168 point total. 

Individually, Kayla McBride led the Lynx in scoring with an impressive 31 points. Napheesa Collier displayed her all-around talent with a well-rounded stat line of 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Alanna Smith also chipped in significantly with 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

For the Dream, Rhyne Howard emerged as the top scorer with 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Tina Charles provided secondary scoring with 14 points. It’s worth noting Cheyenne Parker’s impactful performance in limited minutes, scoring 10 points and dishing out eight assists in just 19 minutes of play.

Second Matchup

In their second match-up, the Lynx were -9.5 favorites and the total was set at 162.5. Napheesa Collier led a balanced Minnesota attack with 16 points as the Lynx dominated the Atlanta Dream 68-55. This victory extended the Lynx winning streak to five games.

While the Lynx offense wasn’t on fire (7-22 from three), they shut down Atlanta’s top scorers.  Rhyne Howard and Allysha Gray were held to a combined 13 points on a dismal 2-25 shooting performance. Howard even left the game in the third with a leg injury.

Bridget Carleton chipped in 14 points for Minnesota, and Dorka Juhasz provided a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The Lynx reserves as a whole outscored Atlanta’s bench 19-6.

Tina Charles led the Dream (now 6-7) with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, but Minnesota’s stifling defense held Atlanta to just 29% shooting overall. Minnesota covered the spread and the total went under the oddsmakers predictions. 

Missing Two Stars

Our Dream vs Lynx WNBA predictions see the Lynx pulling this one out. Although the Lynx have lost their last two games, they are 10-3 at home this season and 15-10 against the spread. They are 7-6 against the spread on their home floor. The total has gone under in three of the last four Lynx games. 

The Dream are 4-8 on the road this season but are 8-4 against the spread on the road. They are 11-12 against the spread overall. The Dream have gone under their scoring total for four straight games. 

With both of these teams missing their best player it is difficult to predict how they may perform. The Dream have been without Howard for longer than the Lynx have been without Collier, but the Lynx are much more well equipped with extra talent to pick up the slack. These teams have both been trending under of late and without the scoring punch of Howard and Collier we could see this one going under the predicted point total.
