Mavericks vs Nets Odds and Spread: Away Team Favored

The Mavericks and Nets Meet in a Cross-Conference Matchup

The Dallas Mavericks made a trip to the East Coast on Thursday when they traveled to Brooklyn to take on the Nets for the first time this season. The Mavs are coming off of a narrow two-point loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night despite being 5.5-point favorites in that game.

Dallas is now 1-2 on the season with their only win coming against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Mavs also have yet to win a game on the road. Meanwhile, the Nets played a tough game last night against the Bucks in Milwaukee. At 1-3 on the year, Brooklyn is now looking for just its second win of the season.

Both of these teams were near the top of the NBA last year standings as well as the NBA conference standings. The Mavericks vs Nets odds and spread have this game priced at Dallas -1.5.

Nets on First Back-to-Back of the Season

For the first time this season, the Brooklyn Nets will play games on back-to-back nights. Kevin Durant and company lost to the Bucks last night in Milwaukee with a final score of 110-99. The NBA team then jumped on their plane and flew back to New York after the game, which means they probably didn’t get home until the early hours of the morning.

While basketball teams get used to this NBA schedule as the season goes on, playing back-to-back games early in the season can be extremely tough because players’ conditioning isn’t exactly in mid-season form.

On back-to-back games last season, the Nets went 3-8 straight up and only covered the spread in one of those losses. The Mavericks vs Nets odds and spread are currently in favor of Brooklyn but we think the wrong team is favored. It’s early in the season, but the Nets defense is already pretty bad, ranking 28th in scoring defense after giving up an average of 123 points per game through their first three games of the year.

That includes surrendering 130 points to the New Orleans Pelicans and 134 to the Memphis Grizzlies. It’s tough to win NBA games when you’re giving up that many points, but it’s going to be even tougher to do so against the Dallas Mavericks who rank first in the league in offensive rating.

Mavs Need Bounce-Back Win

Continuing Our Mavericks vs Nets Odds and Spread Pereview: The Mavericks suffered their second loss of the season on Tuesday at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite being without two of their best players in Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, the Pelicans got off to a hot start with a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Mavericks were able to climb back in and make this a game but lost by two as Luka Doncic missed a potential game-winning step-back three at the buzzer. That wasn’t a game Dallas should have lost. They were the heavy favorite in that game for a reason, yet didn’t play up to their potential and head coach Jason Kidd was disappointed in his team’s defensive performance, especially in the first half.

We can expect the Mavs to come into Thursday’s game with a much different effort from the beginning. Doncic, who had 37 points on Tuesday and is averaging 34.7 points per game, is going to be hard for the Nets to slow down. Christian Wood has also been a bright spot for Dallas as he is averaging 24.3 points and 8.7 rebounds.

Activity on the boards is another way the Mavs can take advantage in this game and another reason we think the Mavericks vs Nets betting odds and spread is favoring the wrong team. Dallas ranks first in the league in both defensive rebounds and overall rebounds. Once again, that’s not a stat that is an ideal matchup for the Nets seeing as they rank second to last in those same categories.

If Dallas comes into this game with more focus on the defensive side of the ball and rebounds the basketball well, they should be able to take advantage of a tired Brooklyn Nets team and cover the -1.5 spread.
