NBA Finals Game 4 Closing Odds are Dead Heat
Boston Celtics at Dallas Mavericks Game 4 Odds at a Pick'em

After the Dallas Mavericks’ furious comeback attempt fell short in Wednesday’s Game 3, the Boston Celtics took a commanding 3-0 series lead and they can close out the 2024 NBA Finals and lift the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy on Friday night. The Celtics vs Mavericks Game 4 odds currently have the game as a pick’em, with both teams at -110 to win. That’s a big shift from the Game 3 odds, which had the Mavericks as 2.5-point favorites.
Things have moved drastically in Boston’s favor as Dallas seeks to avoid a sweep. The total is 211.5 points, a slight dip from Game 3.

It’s officially do-or-die time from Luka Dončić, Kyrie Irving, and the Mavericks who have yet to crack 100 points in this series. They almost came back from 21 points down in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 93-92 with 3.5 minutes left. But Dončić fouled out and the Celtics made big shots late in the game to seal it.
Many NBA free picks had the Mavericks winning Game 3 as favorites yet Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Derrick White had other plans.
No NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit to win in the playoffs. Even if Kristaps Porzingis is unavailable for Boston, it doesn’t seem as if the Mavericks will be the first team to do it.
It’s still hard to pull off a sweep in the Finals so don’t expect Dallas to just lay down. However, the Celtics are a talented and determined bunch that tends not to play with its food.

Expect Luka To Bounce Back
While Dončić didn’t have a terrible performance, his shooting wasn’t as efficient as usual. He went 11-for-27 from the field and only 1-for-7 from 3-point range. To make matters worse, he fouled out at a critical moment in the game with his team trailing by just a few points.
The Celtics vs Mavericks Game 4 odds aren’t expecting him to be able to get Dallas over the hump on Friday but it would be rather surprising if he allowed the Mavericks to go down without a fight. He has been one of the only consistent bright spots for Dallas all series and it just feels like he’ll rebound after a complaint-filled Game 3.
The Mavericks have played the Celtics close the last two games yet just haven’t gotten those big crunch-time buckets and stops that you need to take down such an elite opponent.
While Dončić won’t help much on the defensive end — he has had a brutal series on the side of the floor — there are few players who you’d rather have with the ball in his hands needing a few points late in a game. Look for him to assert himself with his team’s season on the line.
Based on the line, the NBA scores today could be very tight. Game 4 just might come right down to the wire. And while Boston has thrived in those situations all postseason, Dallas may be too good a team to be swept, particularly with the series currently on their home floor.
There’s also the idea that Boston could get complacent knowing that they have a huge lead and could clinch on their home floor if the series is extended.

Will Tatum Get His Signature Moment?
Throughout his career, Tatum has faced criticism for not performing at his best in crucial moments. This narrative has persisted even as Boston has dominated the playoffs this year. Despite Boston’s smooth run through the playoffs, Tatum continues to be scrutinized for his past struggles in big games.
The Celtics vs Mavericks Game 4 odds may be a hint that Vegas expects Tatum to finally buck that label for good. He scored 31 points in Game 3 but took 26 shots and struggled from distance (4-for-13). His teammate, Brown hit big outside shots to clinch the ‘W’.
After so-so performances in Games 1 and 2 that were saved by strong play from his teammates, this is a golden opportunity for Tatum to take over the game. As this team’s star — and with Porzingis still listed on the NBA injury report — it’s time for Tatum to cement his legacy and secure Boston’s 18th NBA title.
Plus, there’s the added motivation of a potential NBA Finals MVP award for Tatum or Brown. It seems as if whoever plays the best for the Celtics tonight will take home the aptly named Bill Russell Trophy.
It feels like a dead heat between Tatum and Brown. You know both are gunning to outshine the other while focusing on winning over everything else. It’s another layer of intrigue to a game expected to be a very close one all the way through.
