NBA Outright Bets: Bucks Slight Favorites to Win Title

Celtics, Suns Given Best Chance to Defeat Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Bucks find themselves listed as the team to beat in the NBA outright bets as the play-in games are set to start Tuesday. The championship odds followed the standings in the Eastern Conference. The Western Conference has its No. 4 team as the favorite. Barring an upset, the Eastern Conference champion will be favored in the NBA Finals. Several of the first-round playoff series have been determined. The play-in games will determine the remaining matchups.

The Favorites

Bucks logoMilwaukee Bucks (+275)

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks had the best record in the regular season and earned the favorite designation. It’s hard to fault those who like Milwaukee. The Bucks don’t always give their best effort on a nightly basis. Milwaukee is guilty of coasting during the regular season at times, knowing the real NBA schedule begins with the playoffs. The Bucks were No. 8 in scoring at 116.9 points and No. 14 in scoring defense. The Bucks did have a dismal 4-13 straight-up and ATS record as an underdog this year. So Milwaukee wasn’t at its best against tougher competition. Still, we probably haven’t seen the best Milwaukee can offer yet this season.

Celtics logoBoston Celtics (+325)

The Celtics finished just one game behind Milwaukee, so it makes sense they’d be right there in the NBA outright bets odds. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were both in the scoring top 10 in the NBA player stats. The Celtics have several players who can come up big when needed. Boston was excellent as an underdog this season, going 7-4 straight-up and 10-1 against the number. The Celtics were No. 4 in scoring offense and tied for fourth in scoring defense. The Celtics may offer a little more value than Milwaukee considering just one game separated the two teams.

Suns logoPhoenix Suns (+450)

Despite finishing fourth in the Western Conference, the Suns have the lowest odds in the conference. Phoenix was No. 17 in scoring offense and No. 6 in scoring defense. Phoenix was missing players throughout much of the season. Only one player in the top nine in scoring managed to play at least 60 games. A healthy Phoenix team is a threat. But you’d like to see a little higher odds on the Suns. Phoenix opens the playoffs against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Contenders

Warriors logoGolden State Warriors (+750)

The Warriors were No. 2 in offense and No. 21 in scoring defense. But it’s hard to completely count out a team with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson even if their best years are behind them. Jordan Poole played in all 82 games this season and gave Golden State three 20-point scorers. But it’s hard to back a team that was 11-30 on the road knowing they’ll be the lower-seeded team throughout the playoffs. Golden State wasn’t much better against the spread, going 12-28-1. The Warriors meet Sacramento in the first round of the playoffs.

Nuggets logoDenver Nuggets (+1000)

The Nuggets are at generous odds of +1000 on the NBA outright bets. Denver had the best record in the Western Conference but also struggled a bit on the road. The Nuggets were 19-22 straight-up and ATS away from home. Denver was No. 12 in scoring offense and No. 8 in scoring defense. The Nuggets are a bit of a young team, with the top six scorers all 27 or younger. Denver was 13-7 ATS as an underdog this season, which could be something to follow in the playoffs.

76ers logoPhiladelphia 76ers (+1000)

Joel Embiid and Philadelphia had the third-best record in the NBA, but the top three teams were all from the East. The Sixers will have to steal a road game or two if they hope to advance. Philadelphia is well-balanced, finishing No. 14 in scoring offense and No. 3 in scoring defense. James Hardin saw his scoring drop but his assists go up and Tyrese Maxey had a strong season for the 76ers. Philadelphia won’t be a pushover for either Boston or Milwaukee. Philadelphia opens the playoffs against Brooklyn.

The Outsiders

Lakers logoLos Angeles Lakers (+1400)

Those odds of +1400 on the NBA outright bets might be a little optimistic for the Lakers. Granted, they have some stars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell, but they were No. 7 in the conference standings. All three players missed time this season but should be ready to go here. The Lakers were No. 6 in scoring offense and No. 20 in scoring defense. Los Angeles was 24-28 straight-up as an underdog, although many times they were made dogs due to missing players.

Grizzlies logoMemphis Grizzlies (+2200)

The Grizzlies had the No. 2 record in the Western Conference but are well down the odds list. Memphis was No. 9 in scoring offense and No. 11 in scoring defense. But Memphis had its problems against the better teams. The Grizzlies were 3-16 straight-up as an underdog and 6-13 against the spread. That right there makes the Grizzlies a tough team to play on, as there won’t be any easy games on the schedule.

The remaining teams are all at odds of +35000 and higher.
