NBA Sixth Man Of the Year Odds Update: The Final Four
The “6MOY” Goes to the Best Bench Guy on Top Team

Brogdon Leads Quickley as NBA Season Ends
As the 2022-23 NBA regular season comes to its final act, the NBA Awards race builds to a climax. Among the more intriguing races is the battle for the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon continues to lead at -250 on the NBA Sixth Man Of the Year odds board but New York’s Immanuel Quickley has closed the gap at +200. It’s a classic Boston vs New York rivalry to crown the NBA’s best bench player.
Brogdon vs Quickley: Floor General Versus Hot Scorer
Looking at the past NBA Sixth Man of the Year winners, the majority had one thing in common: they were pure scorers. In fact, 10 of the last 11 winners were primarily “shooting” guards. Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford combined to win the award six times while James Harden also captured it in Oklahoma City in 2012. If this trend continues, Quickley will get votes over Brogdon.
The Knicks guard has come on strong for the Knicks in 2023. He’s averaging 15.8 points while shooting 47.8 percent from the field. New York has gone 23-13, which is tied with Boston for the fifth-best record in this span. The team has also covered 57.1 percent of its NBA point spreads. A few of these came in upsets against Boston and Golden State in which Quickley scored 20+ points off the bench.
But despite these recent trends, Brogdon has been a force for Boston off the bench since the start of the year. It’s why he’s stayed atop the NBA Sixth Man Of the Year odds. Brogdon has solidified Boston’s bench and is the floor general they’ve always needed. He averages 14.7 points with 58 percent effective field goal rate. More notably, he only commits 1.5 turnovers in nearly 26 minutes of play per game.
“Brad [Stevens] did have a conversation with my agent and talked about me coming to Boston and embracing a sixth-man role,” Brogdon spoke to Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast back in July. “I’ve made a lot of money, I’ve won a lot in Milwaukee, I’ve won some in Indiana. But I really want to get back to winning at a high level, I wanna win a championship. So whatever I can sacrifice, to get back to that championship level, I’m willing to do it and compete.”
Brogdon’s production and leadership could do more than make him the Sixth Man of the Year. It could be what pushes Boston over the hump and into an NBA title as the 2023 NBA betting odds allude.
The Long Shots: Monk and Portis are Honorable Mentions
On the NBA Sixth Man Of the Year odds are two other notable players: Sacramento’s Malik Monk and Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis. Both are no more than long shots with odds at 16-1 and 20-1. That gives them less than a five percent implied chance at winning. But regardless, the two have played critical roles for two of the best NBA outfits.
Monk is helping the Kings to their best record in 17 years. Sacramento is currently fighting for the second seed in the West, which would be the highest they’ve been in the playoffs since 2003. Coincidentally, Bobby Jackson also won the Sixth Man of the Year award for Sacramento.
The Kings are playing some fun high-octane basketball and leading the league in scoring with 121 points per game. Monk is averaging 13.7 points and shooting 45 percent from the field. He’s also dishing out a career-best 3.9 assists.
As for Portis and the Bucks, they are chugging along to the top of the NBA standings. Milwaukee will be in the best position to win another NBA title. The eighth-year veteran is scoring 13.8 points off the bench with a 50.1 percent field goal rate. He’s also averaging a career-high 9.6 boards and has a career-low 1.6 fouls per game.
If the standings and the odds hold true, Portis’s Bucks will meet Brogdon’s Celtics in the Conference Finals. In a battle of former teammates, both will play pivotal roles to get their teams back to the NBA Finals.
