NBA Thursday Recap and Scores: Nuggets Fall in Orlando

Trade Deadline Looms Large Across the League

Magic Stun West’s Best Team

The Orlando Magic pulled off an impressive 115-104 home win over the Denver Nuggets as the Western Conferences’ top team started their road trip with a loss. Let’s take a look at the full NBA Thursday Recap and Scores to see what went down around the league.

The Nuggets offense continues to stutter on their travels as they fell to 10-16 ATS on the road this season. Jamal Murray was once again ruled out for the Nuggets, who still closed as 7.0-point favorites.

The Magic remain one of the best spread teams at home this season, with their outright win today improving their record to 17-11 ATS and 15-8 ATS as home underdogs.

This was one of the only games on the slate that wasn’t heavily impacted by trade deadline drama as both teams had the bulk of their rotations available.

New-Look Nets Step Up Big

The Brooklyn Nets began their post-Kevin Durant era with an impressive 116-105 win over the Chicago Bulls at Barclays Center.

Th Nets welcomed Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to their rotations as they poured more misery on the sliding Bulls. Brooklyn closed as 3.0-point underdogs, having originally opened as 3.0-point favorites with DeMar DeRozan questionable and the Bulls expected to be active at the trade deadline.

Chicago led by 13 points early in the second quarter but surrendered the lead on the back of hot shooting from Joe Harris as they went into halftime down by three points.

The Bulls again re-took the lead late in the third quarter but a 37-21 fourth quarter effort from the home team helped deliver an impressive win for Brooklyn’s roster of outcasts.

Shorthanded Suns, Lakers Can’t Keep Pace

The Phoenix Suns had just nine players available in Atlanta as they suffered a 116-107 loss to the Hawks.

The hosts had initially opened as 4.5-point favorites but were quickly moved out to -7.5 points by tip-off following the blockbuster move that saw them acquire Kevin Durant.

Atlanta made light-work of their undermanned opponents, opening up a 14-point lead in the opening period and never surrendering the lead from there on out.

The Hawks made some shrewd acquisitions themselves at the deadline and should feel confident at making some forward progress in the NBA team standings as we head into the final few months of the regular season.

The Milwaukee Bucks spoiled the party in LA as they used a big second-half effort to secure a 115-106 win over the Lakers.

The Lakers held a ceremony honoring LeBron James for breaking the all-time scoring record, but the home crowd hero wasn’t in action as he was ruled out with an ankle injury. The Lakers were also heavily depleted following an active deadline day that saw them move four of their rotation pieces.

Despite being undermanned the Lakers took an eight-point lead into halftime as the Bucks struggled with their outside shooting. Things flipped in a big way in the third quarter however as the Bucks outscored their opponents by 17 points in the second half to cover the -8.0 point spread on the final possession.

All four games on Thursday stayed Under the full game total and all four saw market movement in that direction.
