Nets vs 76ers Spread Favors Brooklyn on the Road

Ben Simmons Returns to Wells Fargo Center to Face Old Team

The Brooklyn Nets travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday to take on the 76ers at Wells Fargo Center. All eyes will be on Ben Simmons in this NBA matchup and he takes the floor in Philly for the first time since being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Simmons spent six seasons with the Sixers, including his holdout during the 2021-22 season. After being traded to Brooklyn at the trade deadline last season, Simmons spent the remainder of the year sidelined with a back injury, so he hasn’t had to face his former team in front of Philadelphia fans quite yet.

The Nets vs. 76ers spread is -7.5 in favor of Brooklyn after opening at -7. Laying that big of a number on the road might seem surprising until you look at the NBA injury report tonight. The Sixers will be without James Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid who are all out with injuries. The Nets are -325 on the Moneyline while a win for the Sixers has a payout of +265. The total for this game is set at 217.5.

Game Information

Brooklyn Nets (8-9) at Philadelphia 76ers (8-8)

Date, time (TV):
Location: Wells Fargo Center

When looking at the Nets vs 76ers spread for Tuesday night’s game, we lean towards laying the points with Brooklyn for a few different reasons. To state the obvious, Philadelphia is without their top three players in Harden, Maxey, and Embiid. The three of them account for the large majority of the Sixers offense. In fact, if you combine each of their scoring averages, it comes out to 84 total points among the three.

That’s going to be tough for Philly’s role players to make up for. The Sixers are going to have to rely on De’Anthony Melton, P.J. Tucker, Georges Niang, and Paul Reed to put them up offensively. Those aren’t exactly the NBA players that we want to put hard earned money on, especially when they’re going up against Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Ben Simmons Revenge Game

There is also an added level of animosity with Simmons returning to Philadelphia that we think could play into Brooklyn’s favor. The basketball team has been vocal about their support and backing of Simmons while he’s struggled to find his footing during the early part of the season.

The Sixers fans are going to be ruthless when Simmons touches the ball and the only way to quiet them down is for Brooklyn to get up big early. So we could see a fast start by Brooklyn in an attempt to silence the crowd.

Nets most recent win over the Grizzlies, but it’s safe to expect a bigger game out of him this time around being he now has a game under his belt.

Kyrie Irving also returns to the court for his second game back since serving his suspension, which should give Brooklyn an added boost offensively. Irving only had 14 points in the Nets most recent win over the Grizzlies, but it’s safe to expect a bigger game out of him this time around being he now has a game under his belt.

Sixers Need to Push the Pace

Targeting the total might be one way to approach this basketball game if you’re not sold on playing the Nets vs 76ers spread at -7.5. Philadelphia typically plays at a very slow pace, ranked 25th in the NBA standings 2022, and they like to operate in the half-court set. However, that’s because Joel Embiid isn’t exactly a track star. Without Embiid on the floor, we expect the Sixers to work to push the pace a bit more.

Their best chance of winning this game is to get out in transition and try to catch the Nets sleeping on defense, which is doable based on the Nets poor defensive rating. Therefore, we would lean towards the over but don’t have a strong play on it.
