Liberty vs Sun Betting Trends
The New York Liberty are 8-14 against the spread, including 6-4 away from home. They have hit the Under three straight games but are 12-10 against the Over/Under.
The Connecticut Sun, meanwhile, are 9-12 ATS, including 4-7 at home. As for the Over/Under, Connecticut is 10-11.
Be sure to remember these trends when assessing the Liberty vs Sun WNBA odds.
Liberty Shining Bright
The Liberty have won 13 of their last 15 games but are coming off an 83-78 loss to Indiana on Saturday. New York, a 10.5-point favorite, failed to cover for the sixth time in eight games, dropping its record ATS to 8-14.
Despite that, New York still shares the WNBA’s best record at 17-4. Three losses have come on the road, where the Liberty are 7-3 OU and 6-4 ATS.
- Oddsmakers are bullish on the Liberty, pricing them as the biggest threat to two-time defending champion Las Vegas. The Liberty are +180 to win the WNBA title, easily the second-best odds on the board behind the Aces (+165).
New York, a runner-up last season, was projected for 30.5 wins.
Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones represent one of the most dynamic trios in the WNBA, combining for over 62% of New York’s scoring. Stewart, the reigning MVP, is fourth among active players in win shares.
The Liberty (8-2 over their last 10 games) rank second in the WNBA in scoring (86.7) and are beating opponents by a league-high 8.8 points on average.
Sunny Skies Ahead for Connecticut
Winners of three straight, the Sun share the WNBA’s best record at 17-4. The Sun are coming off an 80-67 win over Atlanta on Sunday in which DeWanna Bonner scored a game-high 23 points.
Despite its success, Connecticut has been a liability for bettors with a mark of 9-12 ATS. It has covered in just two if its last eight games, including as both a favorite and underdog. Keep that in mind when analyzing the Liberty vs Sun WNBA odds.
- Connecticut, coming off five straight WNBA semifinals appearances, remains arguably the biggest threat to Las Vegas and New York. Connecticut’s title odds have climbed from +1000 to +700 since the start of the season, leaving it third on the odds board ahead of Minnesota (+750). Only five teams are better than 11/1.
The Sun have one of the league’s most veteran-laden rosters, led by Bonner, Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones. All of them are 28 or older, so there is an urgency to win sooner than later.
Thomas, the league’s active leader in triple-doubles, has the second-best MVP odds at +1500. She is averaging 11.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and a league-high 7.9 assists.
Handicapping the Game
This is the second of four regular-season meetings, with the third coming next week at Barclays Center. New York won 82-75 on June 8, handing Connecticut its first loss following a 9-0 start.
Given the success of both teams, bettors can also expect a matchup in the WNBA playoff bracket.
Connecticut, the league’s best defensive team (72.8 PPG allowed), did an impressive job against Stewart earlier this season. Stewart managed only 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting, well below her season average of 19.4 points.
Instead, Ionescu (24 points) and Jones (22) shouldered much of New York’s scoring.
Being at home, where they are 9-2 OU, the Sun are poised to return the favor.
