A Storm is Brewing
The Storm’s recent success is largely attributed to their “Core Four” of former WNBA All-Stars: Jewell Loyd, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Nneka Ogwumike, and Ezi Magbegor.
Loyd is averaging 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on the season. Diggins-Smith is averaging 14.4 points and 6.1 assists. Nneka is averaging 18.7 points, 7.3 assists, and over two steals a game and Magbegor is holding down the paint with 13.6 points and 8.6 rebounds. Be sure to check out all the latest WNBA scores today.
In their win over Indiana, Loyd had 22 points and six assists, Diggins-Smith added 18 points and nine assists, Ogwumike recorded 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and Magbegor finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.
This win marked the fourth in a row on the Storm’s WNBA schedule; they started their season off 1-3. The chemistry of their new stars is starting to form, and they are taking care of business.
Not only have they now put together four in a row, but they’ve covered the spread in four of their last five games. They are 2-1 so far this season and Phoenix has started the season playing poorly on the road.

Phoenix Stops Streak
Phoenix’s four-game skid, capped by three consecutive losses on the road, ended triumphantly at home on Sunday. The Mercury (4-5) defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 87-68, snapping their losing streak. Diana Taurasi, 41, led the charge with an impressive performance, making seven 3-pointers and finishing with 31 points.
She was 7-of-9 from beyond the arc, 9-of-14 from the field overall, and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Taurasi also contributed two steals to the victory.
Phoenix’s defense was particularly strong in the second quarter, limiting Los Angeles to 3-of-14 shooting from the field and going on a 15-0 run to pull away.
Natasha Cloud added 21 points and 12 assists, achieving her third double-double of the season, while Natasha Mack grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
Although their victory against the Sparks was impressive, Los Angeles is still in last place in the conference. One of the biggest struggles for the Mercury so far this season has been playing on the road.
In front of their home crowd, they are 3-1, but on the road, they are a measly 1-4. Upsetting the Storm, who are red hot right now, would certainly be a statement to show they can win on the road.
Phoenix Mercury vs Seattle Storm Matchup History
Mercury vs Storm WNBA odds are the Storm -7.5 and the total is 164.5. We think this is a reasonable line given that the Storm are playing at home and have won four consecutive games.
The catch however is that all four of those games were against teams below .500. We still believe in the talent and home-court advantage the Storm have over the Mercury (also below .500).
The easy schedule for the Storm has warmed them up just enough as their talent starts to learn how to play together, we expect the Storm to win and cover in this matchup.
The Storm are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, and the total has gone over in four of their last five home games. The Mercury are 2-4 against the spread in their last six games and the under has hit in four of their last six games. In their four games last season, Seattle won all four. They also covered the spread in each of those games.
